Sorry they just make me laugh. Even AVForums shove them with "other console gaming" !!!
Right, what a worth while thread
Well, you will always have people who only care about graphics and what system is the most popular, thus dissing all other systems without having even played them.
A real hard core gamer will buy and play all systems that are available, and not just get what their mates have as a Xmas prezzy. (thanks mum!)
Lets imagine that Sony were in nintendo's position and Nintendo in Sony's.
Would people be making these same comments? Of course not.
Age is also a big factor. Younger people will always go for the most popular system as thats what all their mates have. (talk about being a leming!)
Everyone knows (or do they?) the PS2 is LESS powerfull than the Game Cube or the XBox, and yet it outsells them both. Is there any logic to that?
No. Its all down to clever marketing and word of mouth.
100 points for AML
You won't find this funny then.
Revo game in action http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v507/mousedown/revo.swf
Now thats funny
Do have experience working in the US and Japan too? Well, I do and Nintendo are not considered a joke in every country in the world.
In Japan Nintendo are only second to sony, and its MS that are the joke!
The trend in many countries is to buy what is the most popular. Not the most playable, or the cheapest, or even the most fun.
They may be hard to deal with in the UK but I beleive the reason for this is because Nintendo are an old fashioned japanese company and see other markets outside of their own as less important.
This doesnt stop them from being a maker of good games enjoyed by millions all over the world.
Yes they are in 3rd place in many countries, but not all.
And compared to Sony and MS they are at least trying to make something original.
After having played a few 360 games at this years TGS i have to say that i didnt play a single original (thus) fun game. Not 1!
Even with this new generation of consoles we are looking at sequels galore, just with a higher resolution!
Sony and MS may be easyer to sell, but since when has gaming been all about the money? Oh yeah, when sony got into the games industry!
Nintendo are the last of a generation of companies that wanted to entertain people. This new generation just want to make money.
The Cube may not appeal to an older gamer because most of its games are designed for younger gamers. You try telling a 10 year old the Cube is kak!
So you are admitting they are a joke in UK?? Hence my original post
(Sorry I edited my last post and made it much longer.)
They might be a joke to you and to retailers, but not to everyone in the UK.
Hmmm, GAME, possibly the worst videogame retailer about? please take into account that alot of people know what they want and will, these days at least, buy via the internet as shops like game only ever seem to stock EA games.
Yes they probably are the worst retailer around (hence why I left), but during my time there I did have alot of dealings with other companies including Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft, Sony and Nintendo. Nintendo were by far the worst to deal with!!
Tis very true, NOE are a useless bunch of idiots
Metroid Prime; Animal Crossing; Paper Mario 2; Resident Evil 5; Eternal Darkness; Pikmin 2; Super Monkey Ball...
... cack? I don't think so.
2 Days eh? you must of really put some effort in to try it out, how was your 2 day gaming session of the latest "Bond" shocker?
Close this. Pointless
A bit like nintendo
Seriously, if it wasn't for Nintendo (and Sega), the videogame market wouldn't be as it is today. Sony only entered after proposing a CD add on for N64, then going alone when Nintendo dropped out
Microsoft went in to cash on Playstation success, which only happened 'cos ^
Not to mention Sony ripping off Nintendo for every controller inovation, then Microsoft following
Nintendo also made pioneering games for each genre
If Revolution is a success, I bet we'll be seeing rip off movement controllers for PS4/X900
And I'm no fanboy. I got a PSP instead of a DS. Just giving credit where's its due
The only thing Nintendo have done wrong are:
a) founding a leading competitor
b) losing sight of ball / taking foot off pedal; not realising market has changed. Casual gamers are easily manipulated with good marketing
Pointless thread. Yet you write so much
Its a character flaw
I have all three consoles and TBH I've been playing the Cube the most lately, Pikmin2, F-Zero, Resi4, PaperMario, Monkeyball2. Classic gaming all the way and all look amazing in prog scan on my PJ
No console deserves knocking IMO, they're all good
i bought all three consoles and the ps2 gets the least amount of play. Out of the otherxbox mainly play live and GC i play all the wonderful gameson it. Give the size of teh GC have to marvel at fantasitic graphic/gameplay of games such as Resi Evil, Zelda, metroid, Mario, eternal darkness. Lots of great multiplayer mayhem eg mario kart/bomberman/monkey ball
true the gc has not done as well, perhaps if they had supported live like xbox did it may have been more popular, imagine playing the likes of mario tennis, golf kart, monkey ball, metroid, zelda live
i'm sure i read somewhere that nintendo are the only console manufacturer actually to be making profit....
microsoft have definately lost millions each year on xbox due to the big losses on each console sold.
oh yeah, plus the ps3 is going to be a huge loss for sony.... reports they will cost $150 more than they are going to sell them for
Anyone one who knows anything about video games knows that no one, I repeat no one makes games like Nintendo.
I've been playing for 25 years and have owned every games machine you could mention. I used to be a hardcore gamer although I do not have the time for it anymore.
The best games I played this year have been Resident Evil 4 & Paper Mario.
Which next gen games machine will I be buying? All of them of course. However which one am I most looking forward to.
^^^the encyclopedia definition of 'console wars'....... is it right??
last time I checked Nintendo have never not made a profit in a finiancial year, for a company over 100 years old that is pretty damn good and in no way pointless or in need of "closing"
It is true. Only Ninty have been making steady proffits. Mainly thanks to the GB series and pokemon.
They did make somewhat of a loss with the game cube though.
The biggest loosers (money wise) by far are MS.
But they went in knowing this would happen. Its a tough market to suddenly enter out of the blue, which is why companies like infinium labs will never make it.
MS knew their first machine would be a loss making product, but it has taught them a lot about the market. This time round they should do better, and next time even better.
This is all part of their master plan to get into the $2billion a year games market.
Others would never be able to do it.
Sony were very lucky they got in when they did. And they helped make the market what it is today.
Even though sega had the experience and even the money for a while, they made critical mistakes that ended them up where they are today.
They are surviving, but just barely me thinks.
A long way to fall for a company that once dominated and had either the number one or number two spot.
The future I see is between MS and Sony battleing for top spot and sharing the graphical mass market games, and Ninty in 3rd place enjoying the rest of the market.
ummm nintendo didnt make Resident Evil 4
You are certainly right, nobody does make games like Nintendo
Microsoft actually made a $4bn loss in the past year on Xboxes
They hope to fix this for X360, by ensuring at least one cost cutter every year
You can't deny that mario and all the other nintendo characters are a piece of gaming history.
They may not appeal to older gamers, but that doesnt make them any less important.
If there was a list of the best games ever, im sure there would be more than one Nintendo made game in there.
Separate names with a comma.
