    Hello,

does anyone know somewhere with the D70 + lens kit in stock at a reasonable price?

I have seen a number of adverts for £899 (e.g. unbeatable) - but no-one appears to have stock.

Dixons even advertise at around £850 online - but again no stock!!

    Cheers,

    b.

Try these people, they're a big Nikon dealer that will sort any problems such as backfocus should you be unlucky enough to have a problem. They had stock last week, £899.

    Gary,

thanks for the info - I gave them a call, however, they have no stock, and a "small" waiting list. The price of the lens kit is about £898 from them.

    Cheers,

    b.

    They're selling like hot cakes!

I was on the waiting list for a week and then got a call to say they had some in stock.

    Yes, got it last week.

Been through a bit of an upheaval with cameras over the past month. Sold my 10D because I was fed-up of the bulk and weight and bought the Oly 8080 wide zoom, didn't like the electronic viewfinder and button layout on that and realised that I'd made a mistake selling the 10D so bought the D70 kit thinking I'd go back to the 10D if I didn't like it.

So far I'm very pleased, it's more consistent with exposure and focusing than the 10D and much faster between shots, it's also a little bit lighter and less bulky which suits me better. Although I haven't done any formal testing, focusing seems to be fine, haven't had any pictures where I've noticed a problem. Hope you don't have to wait too long, it's a very nice camera for the money.

gary , could I ask where you eventually got it from , was it the link you posted earlier, and how much.
I'm finding that I'd have more luck getting a necklace of 4 leaf clovers around a unicorn than one of these.

    MonkeyBoy,

if you're in a hurry to get one - both Dixons and Jessops have stock of the D70, however, their "lens kit" includes a cheaper 28-80mm lens (or in Dixons speak "a 2.9 times optical zoom"). They are retailing this kit for £849.

From what I have read the 18-70mm lens is the one to get though.

There are 3 lens kits available in Jessops 18-70. 28-70, 24-85

The proce starts at £849 i think to about £1099, lens dependent. And Jessops will be able to get hold of one fairly quickly as I know there have been a lot of delivereis recently.

Yes, I got mine from Fixation, price was £765 + VAT. Given the problems reported on the Internet about the 'backfocus' issue I wanted to make sure I was buying from a Nikon dealer that has the experience and equipment to diagnose any faults. I came across their name on another forum where a member had bought a camera from them that suffered 'backfocus', they were able to test and confirm the problem and got the camera serviced with Nikon very quickly.

As stated above, I put my name on the waiting list with Fixation. they called me yesterday to say that they had the D70 kit in for me, and if I wanted to proceed. told them yes - and the box is sitting on my desk right now.

    Good delivery and service!!

Can't wait to get home to play.....

I got a pack of 20 A4 prints from a keen photographer friend yesterday, taken on his new D70. Absolutely stunning quality. I told him he need never load a roll of film in a camera again. He's waited years before going digital because he's not been convinced, until now, that the results were good enough. The D70 is quite obviously a stonking bit of kit. I envy you all!
