Nikon CoolPix 5600

Having turned off the flash on the above camera to take one picture I cannot now turn it back on. I have tried pressing the top rocker switch to access the flash menu without success. Can anyone help or is the camera faulty?

your not on automatic mode are you? im pretty sure you cant change it if its just on the basic automatic mode. My pals mum always forgets on hers!
