My daughter watched Brothers Garcia on Nick last night. There was a website mentioned by the brothers in the show and so my daughter, in all innocence, accessed it. It turned out to be a hardcore porn site.

My wife contacted Nickelodeon UK today about it and they are furious. All their shows should be screened and edited before airing so that they are beyond reproach. They are particularly concerned about other children having done the same thing.

At least my 11 year old was sensible enough to leave the site as soon as she realised what it was and informed me and her mum about it. Others may not have that sense.

The thing is, what should we do now? Do we report Nick to the Broadcasting Standards Authority or leave them to clean up the mess?

Nice to se you have brought up a such a wise daughter.
The question is do you feel Nickelodeon was genuine in their response.
If yes, I would look upon it as a mistake, will reporting them do any more good?
If you feel it was disingenuous, kick them into touch.

    i dont believe u ;)

    michael,

I don't know that program but before you chastise nick'n are you sure the spelling was exactly as the one on the program? The latest (and dumbest) trend is for bozo sites to register names close to well known ones, or get the .com instead of the .org e.t.c. A british charity got caught out like this. That is why the biggest companies register all combinations and common mispellings of their names....

If you want to check the spelling, just go into History.

There is a web site called Dickelodeon I chanced upon by, err mmm  accident once.

Get you self a copy of Norton Internet Security Family Edition. It has a good parental controls that block porn and other child unfriendly web sites. It uses a list of web sites to block kids from. The list is updated regularly by Norton you run a live update for your firewall and it downloads the updates. It also has the facility to block searches on certain key words. You can also bypass the blocked sites by using an admin password for your own browsing. Or setting up diffrent user profiles, A certain access level for different age group.

All in all not a bad package, and it protects you from hackers. What more could you ask for.
