Can anyone please confirm my suspiscion that the audio signal generated by my pace NTL cable box is not Nicam Stereo ?

On My philips widescreen the Nicam Signal box appears breifly when watching say BBC1 terrestrial, however watching BBC1 through cable there is no Nicam indicator and the sound appears to be worse.

Am I correct in my assumption or not ?

If it's not nicam what signal is been broadcast ?

    Regards,
    Mike.

It's 'mpeg audio' on digital TV, NOT NICAM.

I take it you are using a SCART lead, otherwise it would be in MONO.

I agree, terrestrial NICAM does sound better.

Mike - do a search on here if you want more info, it's been covered a few times.

FWIW - I've got a TV with Dolby 5.1 which suports prologic etc etc and the sound from NTL Dig is excellent.

    Cheers
    OG
