    Hi chaps,
I've now decided to say what the hay and buy a new PSU - as me current one has a whine noise to it which grates.
After mucho looking about it appears that the above unit could be a goer. However, no one, besides reviewers, seems to have opted for one of these and this concerns me.
The proposed recipient pc is purely for HC usage and nothing else.
Anyone got one or tried one? Any views on a suggested unit?
    Thanks.

I just bought one of these from quiet pc, on the basis of the silentpcreview, when it arrives I'll let you know what its like, although I haven't got much to compare it to as I've never used any of the other quiet psu's, and I'm sure that pretty much anything will be better than my current one.

    It's £66.92 delivered.
I asked Quietpc and they reckon it's the quietist.
    Never heard of the Fortron?

I got the Nexus a few months ago based on the comments on the silentpcreview.com site and can recommend it as very quiet.

It's difficult to quantify how quiet it is but I previously had PowerMan and Q-Technology PSUs (can't remember the model nos) and it's noticeably quieter than them. My sensitivity to computer noise is pretty low thanks to working with them for too long, but even when specifically listening I can't hear my HCPC in a quiet room from a couple of metres away.

    Cheers,
    Ian.

Well I installed the power supply last night, and it is really really quiet, its almost impossible to hear, at the moment i haven't got my case yet and i wasn't able to test it under load as I've not installed any os yet. sitting in a case frame with no cover it was considerably quieter than the zalman fan running on the slowest setting that was cooling the processor. I'm not sure what it will be like with the case on. On a side note I was slightly dissapointed with the noise that the zalman fan was making, but I'll wait until i have the case and cover all set up before worrying too much.

For anyone who is interested my Fortron/Sparkle FSP-350 PSU arrived today...seems well built and because it has a single Papst 120mm fan on the bottom it's very quiet. I got the 350watts model which under test was rated at around 450watts by tomshardware.
