Next generation players announced!

I hope we get the firmware update soon.

I see no reason to trade in my XE1, but its good that new players are comming.

Agreed!
Will be keeping my Xe1......hurry up with the 1080/24,though.

Another news:
Toshiba Europe won't be making 1080i players any more after October: 1080p only.
24p being added to the older models. From December, all HD players will be able to replay 50p. (This means that European-originated HD shows will not need to go through a lossy standards conversion process to be released on HD DVD).

Does this mean no successor to the HD-E1?

Yes, that's all right. At the press conference, the guy from Toshiba actually showed the Venturer player and seemed to be discussing it as the new 'cheapest' option.

Oh yes there is!
3rd gen are US
2nd gen is EU

US can't play region 2 DVD's and EU vice versa.

But the post linked to already included the EU products.

The price of the A35 looks a lot more attractive than the EP35 I have to say.

CEC Funtionality (REGZA-Link): The HD-EP30 and HD-EP35 models also feature "CE-Link" (HDMI-CEC), allowing two-way control between the HD DVD player and a TV through an HDMI connection. The "CE-Link" connectivity offers the capability to communicate with and control another CE device in a whole new way. For instance, using "CE-Link" with "One Touch Play" consumers will be able to turn on a CEC capable HDTV and a Toshiba HD DVD player, and start playing a movie, with a single touch of a button on the player remote.

I've scanned this thread twice and can't see the info I'm looking for.

What scaling/deinterlacing chip does the EP-35 use? If it's the Reon, I think this may just be the product to make me finally shell out for an HD player.

The info i've read is that it's not the Reon, for that you'll still need the XE1, the Onkyo or the integra. (or the samsung dual player).
