Anyone know when Pioneer or Panasonic will launch their next generation plasma screens? The current models have been around for about 18 months now!

I know that Panasonic have stated that they will have plasmas brighter than CRT before the end of the year. It would be interesting to hear about any enhancements that are on the way.

I have a Pioneer 503MXE and am thinking about a new plasma for the living room. I want to wait until the new models arrive.

Er... wasn't the Panny 5 range only available from Q3-2002? Hardly 18 months, more like six.

I stand corrected on the Panasonic but the Pioneer has been around for 18 months or so.

According to earlier inputs from Pioneer we should not expect any models this year. Furthermore only the 503 is 18 months, the 433 was officially released much later.

Are there any new features in pipeline worth waiting for or should I just get another 503MXE?

    Hi Gaz,

If you are fairly happy with your 503, you could get one of the new Key Digital cards which should be available shortly. It would give you much improved de-interlacing and scaling, with a better set of inputs including 2 sets of components and 2 DVI-HDCP inputs. Check out www.keydigital.com for details.

The 6th Generation Panasonics will be available soon
42" in July and 50" in October
from what I'm told, the only improvement is "better greyscale"?

Yeah, well. It's still one of the oldest models marketed as new on the market. Pioneer will launch an improved tuner box this summer with improved noise reduction. The panel will not be changed at that time.

    Hello all

Just to clarify on some of the above.

As far as I can tell we will see the release of the PDP-433MXE with a Silver bezel some time later this summer after that the PDP-433MXE and PDP-503MXE will run though until early next year; no info at present on what the next generation of MXE displays will offer.

The PDP-433HDE and PDP-503HDE are already being shipped with the revised R03E Media Box - this differs from the previous R03 box in that it is:
    A. Built In-house by Pioneer
    B. Offers Digital Noise Reduction
    C. Has a new slim line remote

There is also a new PDK-TS03 pedestal stand that offers a 10 degree swivel left to right and a new PDP-S11 Horizontal speaker that has a darker grille than the all Silver PDP-S08.

We will see all new 43 and 50" HDE Models late this summer - with a completely revised Media Box with new connectivity options; no firm details as yet but maybe the fact that Pioneer are already pushing digital connectivity in the audio market gives us a bit of a clue.

    Best regards

    Joe
