Unfortunately I will not be able to afford all seven this year (£450). I will probably just get a couple.
So the thing is which two? What would you guys recommend? I know the later series had much bigger budgets, but as I remember some of the stories were a little weak.
    Any oppinions?

Personally if funds are short I'd avoid season 1 & 2, IMHO the weakest. I'd probably include season 3 in this list - although its better than 1 & 2.

One thing to point out: From Season 3 onwards all finish with a cliffhanger episode, so you probably want to get 2 box sets that are adjacent to reduce the number of unwatchable episodes (i.e. a story that starts half way through or one you don't have the end to).

As to what to buy, if I was in your position I'd want the big Borg story - "Best Of Bost Worlds", however this is one of the cliffhangers and it spans season 3 & 4, so you'd have to get season 3 - oh well!!!

If you hunt around on startrek.com, you will find all episodes listed which should make your decision easier....

Also bear in mind that Season 2 was only half a seasons due to a writers strike

Oooh, I wouldn't knock the Mount over Star Trek. Featureless though the original series' discs were thay were top-notch remaster jobs, excellent piccy & sound. The Next Gen discs are sonically awesome, piccy's a little soft though no more so than any other NTSC sources stuff.

Don't forget all the non DD movies were remastered in 5.1 for DVD too.

I just hope Star Trek is enough of a cash cow for the Mount to release The Invaders (a Quinn Martin Production;) )

    TimH,

Hi. As far as I know, the reason Gates McFadden (Dr. Beverly Crusher) left ST:TNG during Season 2, was for another work commitment. (Possibly a Broadway theatrical production, if my memory serves.)

However, afterwards, she was asked to return to ST:TNG because her character was pivotal (?!) to the show, e.g. being Wesley's single-parent mother, and possible ex-love interest to Captain J-L Picard! (Make of that, what you will!)

Wasn't she sacked by the producer brought in for season 2 to save the series??

Then after season 2 they sacked the new producer for doing such a bad job and everything was restored to normal!

I remember hearing a rumour at the time that the producers wanted her to wear a new headpiece or eyepatch or something unglamorous like that, and she refused and was sacked.

Or maybe that was just a rumour...!

Anybody come across any reviews comparing R1 vs R2 of this series?

It's a good bit cheaper to source it from the UK, but I've got some niggling doubts in the back of my mind about the PAL transfer vs the R1 NTSC version.

So many box sets this year... <boggle!>

David Vincent, an architect returning home after a hard, hard day parks his car in an old ghost town in order to rest for a while before continue driving. Suddenly, in the middle of the night, something awakes him, a strange object, non human, that is landing in front of his eyes. From this moment he will be trying to persuade a skeptic world that the invasion of our planet is going on; that the nightmare has begun...

Not what was said at the start of the show, can you remember?

How about naming all the Quin Martin show's.

    Invader's
    The Street's of San-Francisco
    Ironside
    Quincy ?

Remember all those act1,2,3,and 4 then the epilogue

Right the program started with a opening tester then went into the titles partly opening up on the words
The Invaders in different coloured pulsating backgrounds then opening up fully and the voice
    Thee Invaders
    A Quinn Martin production.
Staring Roy Thinnis as architect David Vincent.
The invader, alien beings from a dying planet, there destination the Earth, (this is over an Invaders craft passing the moon and heading for Earth the camera pulls back to the inside of the invader spaceship, looking at the screen approaching Earth)
There propose to make it their world.
David Vincent has seen them. (cuts to him going down a track, driving over a road closed sign, he then stops and a Invaders craft lands)
For him it began one lost night on a lonely country road looking for a short cut he never found.
It began with a closed deserted dinner and a man too long without sleep, to continue his journey.
It began with the landing of craft from an other galaxy.
Now David Vincent knows the Invaders are here that they have taken human form.
Somehow he must convince a disbelieving world that the nightmare has already begun
The guest stars in tonight’s story are:

There were 43 episodes over 2 seasons, In the last 13 he met up with Edgar Scorville (Kent Smith) head of The Believers. The opening episode was shown here in the usual 60 minute program but the is a 90 minute version.
The music was By Dominic Frontier very chilling it sent tingles up my spine. (wrote probably the best music for a TV series The Outer Limits) There was also a TV movie staring Scott Bakula and guest staring Roy Thinnis, but it was far for the excellent original series.
They also used the opening plot for a story in Twist in the Tale but I cannot find anything on the series(70/80?)

Saw Barnaby Jones (one of Quinn Martin’s) on BSB a bit back quite liked it as the he follow thing logical rather than depending snouts and giant leaps in guess work (good theme music).

That seems word for word from what I can remember, where did you get the info from, or are you a big fan with a good memory.
The only thing what got up my back about this show was that every time David Vincent found a regeneration base, it was alway's gone without trace when he brought the cop's in, I suppose the show wopuld finish if they ever proved it though.
How did the show finish? I cant remember the story finishing, I guess it just got cancelled like so many other good American sci-fi show's.
For some reason The Invader's always reminded me of a sci-fi film starring Angie Dickinson, full of Human looking Alien's but you could only see them with a fancy pair of chrome glasses with tiny slit's in them, it was called The Love War

I had the recording on mini disc, I like old theme music. I also have them on Betamax only thing the machine is knackerd. Will have to post asking where I can get it fixed some day. The series just finished, the silly thing 2 episodes before the end there’s a story that could have ended it called the Life Seekers in a twist David Vincent helped two aliens get back to there planet, because most? of the aliens back home really did not know what was going on, on Earth. It stared Barry Moors and Diana Muldaur. I’m a big fan.

If I remember the story of The Love War two races of aliens came to Earth to fight for there planets domination of Earth one was a benevolent lot and was represented by Lloyd Bridges he defeated the villains and saved Angie,s life but she killed him in the end, she was a plant by the evil lot.

There was new (90's) remake fo the Invaders, and Roy Thinnes guest starred to hand over the reigns to a new team. Saw a couple on the states but I haven't seen it over here I don't think

    Hi Graham

It was the one I mentioned in my post 4 up I think it was shown on channel 4, over 2 nights it may even have been repeated. I taped it but wiped it, not a patch on the original. And I was really looking forward to it.
