Any news or hints about Denon DVD player with HD DVD or Blu Ray support in it.

I got Denon 1920 which I am delighted with it, and only thing I don't like is I can't use my HD DVD. I used my XBOX 360 with it, but it doesn't have colour output quality compared to Denon 1920.

Nothing announced as yet. Far as I know they're sitting on the fence. Be nice to see a Universal player from them though.

well theres a "D&M Holdings inc" on the blu ray member list as well (2nd list)....

Please, please, please don't let's start another one of those BR vs HD-DVD debates here :lease:

Anyway, maybe this makes a combi player slightly more likely than otherwise.

"Now, please denon all i would like for christmas is a combi player with a high quality SD upscaling chip (eg the realta), so i get to play all 3 formats in stunning quality. Not bothered about cds, sacds etc"

I'd pay a good wack for that machine...

heard a rumour that they where developing a multi-format machine so the war WILL be over when that comes out...

Brilliant! I did not know that they were part of the BluRay bunch too! Well, I too would pay good money for an all-rounder from Denon. Really hope we get more info on this soon :)

If they are spending resources on making it compatible with both formats (and the licensing fees), it would be more expensive and complicated than it needs to be. And no doubt that when it is available, the format will move to a mkII

Bide your time.

Carrado, with you and me, it looks like they have definately sold 2 units ! They'll be doubling their efforts now :smashin:

Think I'll stick with my DVD-A1XVA until this stupid format war is over. One of the formats has to die, or else both will end up consigned to the dustbin bin imho.

I know, I do think one of the formats will become more "specialist" than the other, but it would really help to have a player that handles both formats, so that no-one ends up with useless software after this stupid "war".

The only thing I can see would be stopping D&M is the cost of producing a BluRay player. HD-DVD from what I understand is built on existing technology and is far easier and cheaper to produce.

Correct me if I am wrong??

I was under the impression Sony will not license a universal player

Somebody out there is spreading FUD - I keeping seeing different people asking this question. Two things:

1. Sony do not license the BluRay format - that's the BluRay Disc Assoc (or whatever is their full name)

2. The EU has stated that their competition section is keeping a close eye on licensing of the new formats "to ensure a competative environment". i.e. if anyone is refused a license, a large hammer will fall on the licensors. Eventually. Slowly.

I think i'll be a waiting for Denon to do a all format player (and unlike someone else in the thread, i DO hope that includes SACD/DVD-A as I have a bundle of discs I'd like to keep playing)........

my main reason is I could then keep using my 3803....heh....if I get a machine that doesnt handle SACD/DVD-A i'm stuffed as I only have one set of analogue inputs, and it got such a pain swapping between PC and 3910 that in the end i dropped using the PC for audio unless i used headphones :/

Me too

I really don’t won’t 2 DVD players just so I can play my SACD’s and DVD-A’s.

If the rumours of new Denon amps in the summer with HD capilities are true, then I’ll be surprised if Denon didn’t release a new generation DVD player to partner their new amps soon after. :lease:
