FYI: Pioneer MXE, Hitachi 400e, Panasonic PWD5 and Fujitsu HHS10 will all be on show at the display showcase in Tunbridge Wells (as well as Toshiba, NEC, Panasonic and Epson projectors) over the weekend 17th and 18th of May. See the av-sales showcase thread that i'm just about to write!

FYI: All the plasmas and projectors are properley wired up via component video from the master DVD player (one DVD for plasmas and one for projectors). You should be able to poke around with the kit at will as long as it isn't too busy. However, there will be manufacturer representatives there to bore you to death with sales speak that they don't always entirely understand themselves....

No worries Phil. The plasma room is separate to the Projector room but we will have people walking through the middle of it to get to the PJ's. There's no loud sound systems etc and i'm trying to do it so that we can also listen to the fans where appropriate!!! And there's also no windows so I think we've got near perfect viewing conditions!

Although I recognise that DVD with component will give the best picture outside progressive scan with these plasmas, I would suggest that if possible a freeview box may be usefully employed to show how they will be used for possibly the majority of the time.
I'm not criticising the idea, just a suggestion, I wish someone would do something like this in the Midlands or M62 regions as it is virtually impossible to find the Hitachi plasma on display.
    :)

I'd be careful comparing ALIS panels (Fujitsu, Hitachi?) fed with a component progressive signal and the non ALIS panels as you don't get the best out of the ALIS panels when feeding them a progressive scan signal, it would be better to feed them a good interlaced signal really. Just a thought...

The DVD will not be outputting progressive for exactly these reasons and we have a pair of Panasonic freeview boxes on standby but I doubt the quality of the signal into the hall for them.

Tunbridge Wells is on the Charing Cross to Hastings line (half hourly service to and from London). Tonbridge is 2 stations away and links to the line which goes over to Gatwick and beyond.

This for me (& many others) though is the problem. Having attended a viewing before my decision to purchase is based on off-air PQ. No question, a DVD fed signal is absolutely blinding, but as my viewing is 95% off-air through Sky I want to compare these panels with a decent feed and through a JS RGB-VGA convertor. I'm desperate to change my old CRT set but just can't bring myself to blow 3k+ on any product that I cannot view just as it would be at home.
