The phrase "You can't put lipstick on a pig" springs to mind

I could be wrong but I've listened to a few AVforums podcasts stating that it's precisely for these budget brands where DV may prove useful. Would be interesting to see how much DV makes a difference to sets in this price range.

Its very easy to get a bit 'sniffy' about budget brands but they provide a sufficiently good option for many customers. Vestel is one of the worlds biggest manufacturers making televisions to suit all price ranges. Much of the electronics found in their TVs are identical to what can be found in big name brands costing much more. Sometimes you pay a lot of money for a label! Not everyone is worried about their blacks not being black, or wanting to see a million trillion colours. To a lot of satisfied customers is just a 'telly' they want, nothing more.

Oh undoubtedly that’s true, and when I was a younger man I was very much one of those people (I had a Beko 28” widescreen CRT once upon a time, amongst other terrible sets) - and most people I know still are.

However, some of the brands that Vestel manufacture are just plain awful, and there’s no getting away from that - cheap, low quality panels etc. It was to those sets that I refer.

The upper echelons on their brands should well benefit from DV

To be fair a 28" Beko crt does go back quite a long way. Don't underestimate Vestel. They make stuff to a price that people are prepared to pay. When I worked in the manufacturing industry a long time ago we were equally 'sniffy' about stuff coming from the Far East. Not far down the line we were slapping British brand labels on imported kit. The Far East then stopped copying and started innovating. The rest is history. Get your point though.

Great news, clearly superior to HDR10 and the more that get on board the better.
