I love Apple gear ... especially their laptops and iMacs .... but this is crazy. Everybody knows that 2018 is the Apple year of the 'bezel less' everything ... so iMac included .... AND they have already said the new Mac Pro is coming. This is a stop gap period. Its crackers.

I specced it to the max. Only came to £13k.

I get your point, but if your buying this then I don't think it possible anyone wont be adding a second monitor/better monitor.

That said, for the price even if it remotely comparable to building your own workstation, I'd have liked some reduced borders.

It's utterly wasted on me, but I'd happily have Apple swap my late 2013 model for this FOC.

Yup. Not a very original point but true.

Even the Mac Pro got forgotten.

But Apple simply don’t care now. I’m not in a position to care either. But supposedly the next Mac Pro is going to make amends.

I'm not hating on Apple. I've been a pro user since the mid 90's (first was a Quadra with a whopping 32Mb of RAM). The nice thing about the old machines, whilst being wildly expensive, was that at least you could upgrade them half way through their life cycle to at least feel like you were getting value for money.

The companies that need these machines do not usually upgrade them.

Upgradeability isn't that important to your average non-tech pro user. They just want a box that does what it's supposed to day in day out with little fuss and no problems. Most have a fixed usage, meaning they can buy a machine of the right spec to begin with, feed it it's daily does of number crunching for X years, then buy another to replace it.

Being able to replace the GPU isn't high on most non-tech pros lists of requirements.

I am surprised they couldn't have brought across the ram access door, though.

Credit card will stay in wallet until I can stick Nvidia GPUs in a new expandable Pro. Serious users will have their needs better met with a rebuilt 2012 Pro with 12 cores, SSD and slots, for rather less cash.

^ Is the LG UltraFine 5K Display a choice? Looking at the Apple site, it isn't specifically listed as being compatible with the iMac Pro.
      Anyone have any bright ideas?

It's the monitor they use in their own promotions, if you go onto Apple site and look through the iMac pro page, theres a 3 monitor set up using those screens, so I think they would be compatible, or someone has made a major mistake!

^ Thanks - that was what I was thinking - what put me off was that in the listing for the LG it only mentions the MacBook Pro (2016 and later) and the 2017 iMac, but not the iMac Pro, hence my question.
