Wish this had been promoted a few months ago. I might have held on for the new models instead of buying a FZ802. Having only just subscribed to Netflix I'm like a kid in a sweet shop. Even now the Netflix PQ puts Sky to shame and just goes to show that you're really paying through the nose for Sky.

Would I be hoping too much for a firmware upgrade on the FZ802?

I guess this depends on if its a software change with no extra hardware requirements to activate. If it is just software I wonder if they will push it out on any of the non OLED screen devices as well. (crosses fingers)

I wonder how this is implemented. Assuming each TV in the production line would have to be calibrated so a mere software update to other models would be pointless?

I'd be interested to know how this works at a technical level and what it actually does.
NetFlix content is mastered to the same standards as any other content, so shouldn't need its own 'mode'.

Hopefully AVForums will soon get hold of a Panasonic OLED and do a comprehensive technical review.

      Regards,
      James.

Just get the app and DV implementation right like LG. Then no need for this Netflix Calibrated mode.

On the sony thread there seems to be a few complaints about overly dark picture.

I suspect they adjust the picture settings for a dark room (calibrated) environment. If there's daylight or normal room lighting, then it will look much darker than people expect.

I've read a few threads where people have said NetFlix HDR contents looks particularly dark (not just on Sony TVs) - but I've never experience this problem.

      Regards,
      James.

I had a quick look on the GZ950 in the mode and watching a few scenes of Altered Carbon, it was pretty dark an hard to see the details I could see on the normal Dolby Vision mode.

If the article is accurate, the information to answer these ponderings is therein. The TV's will use settings 'matched' from the grading monitors. Thus, they're not calibrated at all. Marketing waffle essentially.

Won't stop me buying one though but, I'll calibrate it properly, not copy someone else's settings. :D

I'm still blown away with the picture quality on my FZ802 and I don't think I would notice the difference if they were to add a calibrated Netflix software update.
Don't get me wrong I would be happy to have the update, but I would be very surprised to see it happen.

Surely the big news hear is that Panasonic have attempted to modernise their OS by using fonts and graphics stolen from Pro Evolution Soccer in 2001!

Like others have said it will be nice to see it come to the 2018 OLED TVs, for now, I'll continue to stream Netflix to my FZ802 via my CC Ultra, as it seems to provide a better image.

lol as i suspected. Totally useless feature then. Wish the manufacturers would focus their time and effort on more productive things.
