Thanks for the Review Andy. Very Interesting.
L-Acoustics have definitely been one of the front-runners in the Live Music scene for many years regarding Line-arrays. Part of that is being able to get a lot of excellent sound out of a small box. The one thing about all the "Fly-By-Wire" systems is that, like modern aeroplanes, a computer is needed to constantly monitor the source sound & adjust certain parameters. That means, if you try and get it to do something outside its comfort zone, it will just just say "no". One one hand, no danger any longer of hearing a speaker bottoming out if you drive the base too hard, but on the other side, whatever you do, the setup will have an inherrent "sound".
Not saying that this is good or bad, but it is still an aspect to consider when buying a system like this - I don't even want to imagine what one of those speakers would sound like if you took it and, for instance, connected it to a "regular" pre-amp / amp setup!
