So many announcements... And yet, this is probably the most underwhelming set of hardware I've seen for a long time.

especially the pricing.. Samsung s8 seems to be the flagship phone for this year and can be obtained for about 530 ish, this however is not very competitive.

One good positive for the range is stock android and guaranteed updates for three years

Disagree. Amazon's last Echo reveal a few days ago was overwhelmingly meh.

Maybe my expectations were different, but the new Echo's I felt were well pitched - basically communicated as perfected iterations of the same products but ,crucially, cheaper.

Google on the other hand were pretending that they've somehow created mind bending amazingness which deserves a massive price premium, when in actual fact it's all rather "meh". How anyone would go for this over the galaxy series is beyond me.

Err stock android so no rubbish Samsung bloatware, guaranteed system and security updates before anyone else, unlimited photo/video uploads, and reports the best camera on a phone yet.
We all have our own opinions but I'm not a Samsung man at all never have been.

You're right, it's all just opinions at the end of the day... and I actually won't be getting either... But please note, I'm not thick and I do understand the software benefits of a google device - I just look at the two devices and feel one pushes the boat out more in terms of hardware.

I mean, are we seriously saying after the S8, Note8, iphone X, v30 etc that these google devices have bested them? THAT'S what I expected yesterday - for Google to come along and knock it out of the park. Instead, we get what look like Chinese knock offs of this years flagships?

Honestly I thought the presentation was more about the software than the hardware. Google Assistant was all over the it.

I agree... But software almost isn't their USP anymore, because they let so many other people use it. When it comes to Android the main differentiator is hardware due to its open source nature.

Having owned all Nexus devices since the Nexus 4 and owning a Pixel XL, it is the first time in a long time I have not been on the pre-order bandwagon immediately. I just do not see anything in the new phones to justify £900 on a 128gb Pixel XL 2. I have no doubt the hardware will be nice, but at this moment I am sticking to what I have and running the latest version of the software.

Price is too high and they have jumped on the no headphone jack bandwagon. Very disappointed after last nights presentation. LG V30 is of more interest at present, but no Google Android software, not sure how I would cope with LG's version, and its £800 ouch.

In all fairness pixel 1 was/is designed for 2 years use so I doubt Google is going after pixel 1 buyers with this release. That will come with the next release. This release is to attract those with 2 year old phone - iPhone 6s types.

As a fat man I would like to say I am offended by the skittles comment

      Bloody hate the things

I was considering 'upgrading' my S8+ for the Pixel but nothing worthy of upgrading. I still think no expanding storage option is a mistake but I do love those pure android phones generally. Underwhelmed defo.

I think the point of pixel is to use the cloud storage rather than store loads of stuff locally. If you do that 64gb is probably fine.

Admittedly but for example I use mine on the train which has too iffy a signal so expandable storage is perfect for my needs.

Now that's a better choice lol

in the article you said you can pay £100 more for 256gb storage. pretty sure they only offer 64 and 128gb versions.

It's the deep integration of AI that impresses me. Google has made the hardware to work for the software instead of the other way round. I have pre-ordered the Pixel 2 XL 128GB....still thinking though (can get 2 OnePlus 5s for the price).

Like you I've had Google devices since the Nexus 4, having got bored of Apple (upto iPhone 5) and currently have a Pixel XL, which I love and think is still an outstanding device. I was at the point of switching back to iOS having seen all the leaks and having that disappointment exacerbated by how mediocre the UK Wear devices have been recently. However, having watched the presentation, I think the ecosystem as a whole (I'm a Home user too) offers more than Apple does and so I've ordered a Pixel 2XL and am genuinely excited for its arrival. Now I just need to find a Wear device that gives the looks and functionality balance the Apple Watch would...

I'd agree and have never had a phone with more capacity than 32GB. But folk's usage differs, as we know, so it's nice to have the large capacity of 128GB.

Stock android is great, but I couldn’t agree more pixel 2s are so underwhelming.
