London x2 possibly? nearly 3 hours away.

      Manchester 2.5 hours away.

      Liverpool 2.5 hours away

      you get my point.

      EDIT

Oh and since you dont need a huge city to fill a screen, the whole "we need a big city to fill the screen to get our money back" is BS.

Birmingham on the train I can do, beyond that its for the lucky people who get to live near a flagship city

      See my edit.

There is no reason to stick to the big cities.

I hope these cinemas will be monitored by dolby on a daily basis to make sure each movie is delivered with the same high quality. No sound or picture issues...

A small town isn't going to get the massive footfall in that a city would. The cinemas in my city are always packed and crowded in the bar restaurant areas.

Most of the cinemas in towns, villages, etc closed down because there wasn't enough people to fill them regularly and make a profit. Dolby cinema will likely be located in big cities like London, Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham, Sheffield, Glasgow, Edinburgh.

No doubt they will do the maths and look at the most profitable cinemas.

I doubt that will be an issue. The prices will probably be around IMAX level if not more. When you pay that kind of money, you are definitely there to watch the film, no distractions.

My local Cinema has standard screens with sh*t sound, iMax and XPlus option with a large screen, recliner seat with Atmos (obviously not a "Dolby Cinema", but close).

They only show movies in 3D on the iMax and large screen with Atmos, if you want to watch it as the director intended you have to watch on the standard old crap screen - so I don't go!

I think Dolby Cinema shows 2D movies!

ODEON have an ongoing conversion program with chosen sites transforming into ODEON LUXE cinemas, with reclining armchairs and other luxuries. These 7 cinemas are (so far) East Kilbirde, Edinburgh West, Glasgow Quay, Leeds Bradford, Haymarket, Putney and Swiss Cottage.

And as we know, Leicester Square is currently shut down for a long overdue major refurb.

My guess is that their flagship site will re-open first with Dolby Cinema, Atmos et al.

Didn't know Leicester Square was the flagship, I thought that was IMAX. I guess it would make sense to have separate IMAX and Dolby cinemas. I'm pretty close to the IMAX, Leicester Square not so much.

It's a slightly different kettle of fish, in terms of their marketing etc. This explains why they have ODEON Putney and ODEON Streatham but it's BFI IMAX.

I've been in the Dolby Cinema in their facility in Soho. The picture was superb. I thought the sound was grating and wasn't impressed at all so I hope the ones with Odeon are better.

Yes i would be interested in where they place them as well. Converting the IMAX ones (e.g. Swiss Cottage, BFI, etc) makes sense as they are large screens - but I bet they pull in a lot of cash as an IMAX. Most of the other Odeons are multiplexes (e.g. Holloway) which I am not sure would have a big enough screen for Dolby. I must admit didn't know Leicester Sq was shut but last time I was there for the Tarantino movie and it definitely needs a refurb, but tickets at Leicester Sq are even heftier than the IMAX - George

I know that these are the only places they will consider for that reason, however my Showcase (yes I know it's not the odeon) in my not very big city is always rammed on big releases.

Birmingham will do on the train, but everywhere else means I need to turn a cinema trip into an event day or weekend trip which I'd rather not have to do just to see a great screen and sound system.

If they had one in my local cinema I'd be going a lot more often so tah dah! they will be making more money than they do now.

My local odeon is Tamworth, and it’s the worst cinema I have ever been in! The screens are tiny, the sound system can’t cope with modern movies so it distorts.
      Truly a terrible cinema.

My other local cinema was Streatham Odeon. Decent size screens but its sound was like someone hooked up a mobile phone to their speakers. I couldn't see the point of spending money when even my old Home Theater in a Box system sounded better. The last couple of films have sounded pretty decent so maybe they have sorted it out.

My local Odeon (Huddersfield) is not great & could really do with an update (specially to its seating) although I doubt it will be on this list to be updated. Luckily though theres a Showcase de lux within 20mins drive. Its a shame though as the Odeon (former UCI) has one of the biggest screens in the country

Any ideas when, went to one in New York, best cinema experience in terms of quality. Cost $15 for a 11am screening.

Planning to visit in Florida found 2. So try to do at least twice.

Would be great if sorted by infinity wars 2.

Why would they need to be monitored daily? The movies are sent to the cinema in digital form and after the initial calibration everything should be fine. The dual stack projectors are laser so no loss of light through ageing lamps and the sound quality shouldn't deteriorate over time.

The Soho facility isn't a "Dolby" cinema. It is owned by Dolby but it isn't using the dual stack laser projectors or the same processors that are used in the commercial Dolby cinemas.
