Can't wait for 2019 if micro led will come in sizes suitable for most living rooms. That q9s is also amazingly speced

Thank you Steve, great article. Very impressed so far as wasn’t expecting such beasts especially not the q9 one

Great news about the hdmi 2.0 handling Vrr and Earc. Not too bothered by 8k and hfr as you said.

Any news please about when normal range will be released ?

Thank you for keeping us updated so well

This technique would be indeed better than OLED. Anyone know if Micro LED have ABL as well? Hopefully the limitations of OLED will be gone with Micro LED.

I can't see ABL being an issue with a Micro LED display, so if Samsung can manufacture sufficient panels at a realistic price then it really will be the future of television.

That sound a bit late Steve ? Or they want more time to refine without showing their hand? Hope we will know sooner via industry pro like you...

Please let the regular size models (like 55" and 65") come with VRR! And here's hoping other manufacturers follow this year. Many gamers are waiting for this one future in a TV.

I'd assume one that we can afford may be 3-4 years away - hopefully wrong.

I hope they will not focus only on 8k, they are easier to produce in 4K I guess because of lower led density needed

Just as I predicted that Micro LED will be a demo display, though very impressive, it may be 4-5 years before it appears to domestic consumers in smaller sizes.

Now Q9 is disappointing as its not a native 4K display, why an earth release 8K flagship model when there is no 8K content out there and we hardly beginning to get 4K materials.

This is just a headline grabbing set without any practical application. That means all the 4K contents will be up scaled to fit the massive 8K panel!

There should a be 4K equivalent of Q9, otherwise Samsung will again shot themselves in the foot, as last year.

Its also good news for Oled from a user perspective, now even more competition <$$

Will the similar Sony Cledis hit the consumer market too, demoed last year, will Sony have a slight lead?

I think it's fair to say they won't be cheap at first but I'm sure prices will drop fast, just look at how quickly 4K and OLED prices have dropped overall.

I was surprised too but that's what they said, so we can expect a full launch in early spring.

Always new tech, oled will still have a place, certainly short term.
Wait until you see the nifty roll up oled later today from LGD, not sure I’d want to roll one up, but if it means a 77” - 100” is acceptable in my house - happy days!

It is good for us all. If Sony release CLED ithen we will be looking at OLED/ Cledis/ micro led/ fald lcd / True qled

Suddenly the old argument/feud OLED vs lcd looks like history !!!!
That’s what we call a game changer :)

      Hi,

great article steve, as always. Thanks!

You said that it supports key features such as dynamic metadata, eARC and VRR, but no hdmi 2.1? Does that mean you dont need hdmi 2.1 to support these features, and hdmi 2.0b does the job?

      That would be amazing.
