Just heard on Sky News rumours of a possible buyer wanting to get controlling interest in N.U.
    Two possibilities suggested :-
1, a rich british supporter who wants to bring Keegan back.
2, a Malaysian syndicate who want to develop casino's etc on the site.

Any local lads heard anything ?

building casino's on the site sounds like a good idea, it's the only chance the Newcastle players will have of winning anything ;)

Possible rich British supporter is Graham Wylie, a local lad with a lot of cash to spend having made his millions in the computer software industry (I used to work for him).

    Interesting.
I support Newcastle and would like to see a shake up.
In my view most of the problems at Newcastle are generated by the board of directors there.

As I'm a Forest fan I've obviously read the Stuart Pearce autobiography and it would seem that he has the same view as you. He's full of praise for Newcastle and the fans, but the board (and Ruud Gullitt at the time) sound like a bunch of :censored: to me.

What's the situation with Jenas these days ? When he left Forest I think he was quite a way off being the complete article and he doesn't seem to be there yet from what I've seen.

Jenas apparently feels like he's living in a goldfish bowl in Newcastle - he probably is to some extent but, as a Newcastle footballer, if you go out drinking in the town then what can he expect...

In the friendly on Saturday he played most of the game like he couldn't be bothered and, like a few Newcastle players, when he's good he can be very good but there's not much consistency there.

If we get the right offer he'll go as midfield is one area where we're not short of players.

I do think he should have stayed with us at Forest for another season or maybe 2 - he would have been the big star with us and would probably have developed a bit faster.

According to someone I know that works at St James there may be a little more to that than meets the eye.

I don't think Souness is the most popular manager there's ever been at Newcastle is he :D

It's just depressing as a supporter, following the Keegan era and the Robson era (Who I never wanted to go!) that we are back in the rut of the Dalglish (Get's rid of your best players) era.
Where has all the money gone? Last year we were prepared to offer £25 mil for Rooney, but no one is lined up. Anelka - off, Owen - no chance, Beardsley - maybe, etc.

Do you think Souness is just there until Shearer has learned the ropes ?

Well it's pretty certain that, had Bobby stayed, we would have been no worse off by the end of the season. As for the money, I'm not convinced that it was ever really there for Rooney the 'bid' was more the boards attempt at convincing the fans that we are a big team.

Other thing with Souness is, whenever he's asked about transfer targets he always seems to say "you'd better speak to the chairman", it's almost as if he's got no control at all over the players that come to the club.

I'm amazed Newcastle didn't put a bit in for Smith when he left Leeds, I think he would have been good alongside Shearer.

Just can't imagine Shearer as a good manager - zero motivational skills IMO based on the personality we see on TV

Agree, as much as I like him as a player, don't think he would be a good manager.
I agree that the only reason Souness is there is for Shearer to take over, but why did they panic and get rid of Bobby when they did?
If we ain't in the top 10 by October, Souness will be gone, as for the rest of the season, if we finish in the top 12, I think it would be a miracle.
I'm still wondering if the club are hoping to sell and they are hanging on to their money?

Owen gives Toon hope Aug 11 2005

By Alan Oliver, The Evening Chronicle

Michael Owen has told Newcastle United he would be prepared to join them - if Manchester United and Liverpool do not come in for hin.

This is the news The Chronicle can reveal tonight and it lifted some of the doom and gloom surrounding United's decision not to pursue Nicolas Anelka from Fenerbahce.

United have always insisted that they felt they had "an outside chance" of signing Owen from Real Madrid and at the moment I would say that it is slightly better than that.

For my information is that Owen has told United he would be interested in joining his big pal Alan Shearer at St James' Park but that he owed it to himself to see what his former club Liverpool and Manchester United were going to do.

Real were still saying today that they hoped Owen would stay at the Bernabeu - but as the Chronicle revealed on Tuesday night, Freddy Shepherd was ready to fly to Spain at their invitation to discuss the situation regarding the England striker.

There has been talk of Owen leaving Real Madrid on loan but I believe United's first move would be to try and make it a permanent deal.

My own feeling is that it is too late for United to have a new striker in time for Sunday's opener at Highbury.

But the smart money is on them signing a striker to make his home debut in the home Premiership match with West Ham a week on Saturday.

The Chronicle reported last night that, despite a claim to the contrary, United would not be going back to Fenerbahce with an improved offer for Anelka.

Graeme Souness is disappointed but quite philosophical - even after he lost another striker with Michael Chopra likely to be out for four to six weeks after damaging medial ligaments in his knee in the last night's Reserve victory over Leeds United at Kingston Park.

The United boss said today: "We are disappointed but we have been told by Fenerbahce that they could not think about letting Anelka go until they found a replacement and this was going to be difficult.

"They are finding out, like ourselves, there are not a lot of top strikers available."

Coco's move may be back on

    Aug 11 2005

By Alan Oliver, The Evening Chronicle

Inter Milan have offered to pay Francesco Coco's wages so that the Italian full-back can prove himself at St James' Park.

The Chronicle revealed yesterday that the 17-times capped left-back's loan move to United had gone on ice and the club's official website later reported that deal was off.

But the word from Italy today was that Inter Milan would continue to pay Coco's £60,000-a-week wages because they have complete faith in him.

A source at the San Siro Stadium told me today: "Inter Milan have heard that Coco was coming back to them because Newcastle were not happy about certain aspects of his fitness.

"But Inter have so much faith in Coco's fitness that they are ready to pay his wages for the full 12 months he would be at St James' Park."

There was no word from St James' Park on the Coco situation at first today but frankly United would have nothing to lose giving the idea a go.

They already have a left-back in Celestine Babayaro who, for them, spends too much time on the treatment table and another left-back in Robbie Elliott who is in the doghouse after his howler against Deportivo La Coruna in the Intertoto Cup at St James' Park eight days ago.

And regardless of the situation surrounding Coco, I believe Graeme Souness will hand Steven Taylor the left-back

    position against Arsenal at Highbury.

Souness was surprisingly upbeat today despite all United's problems and he said: "Young Taylor is a beast of a player and we know he will make life difficult for anyone he comes up against if we play him at Highbury on Sunday.

"We know that left-back is not his favourite position but we also know that he will defend as well as anybody.

"Yes, he won't get forward but there are not many left-backs out there who do get forward. Ashley Cole is an obvious exception but the ones who do get forward all used to be left-wingers like Roberto Carlos and Wayne Bridge."

Yay.....About time, I really didn't think we were going to sign anyone.
Saying that, Owen is still to agree, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed xxxxxx

I think Owen would do well to sign for Newcastle - playing every single match for a club who really want you has got to be better than being a super-sub for a club who don't want you as first choice, even if they are in Europe...
