I got myself an Xbox crystal last week and was wondering about a couple of things.

Okay 1st how does the Xbox live work?

    How do I get involved?

Because I'm a cheap s.o.b, how much will it cost me?

I know that if I was to :rtfm: I'd probably get the answers but technical manuals cause my mind to glass over.

**edit** Just thought, do I need to do anything or will it play DVDs straight away?

Okay 1st how does the Xbox live work? - Connect your X-Box to broadband via an RJ-45 cable, sign up for an account (either directly through the Dash or through a starter kit), load an Live enabled game and select the Life mutiplayer option in the game, select someone to play against, plug in your headset (available through starter kits or separately) if you wish to talk and then play!

How do I get involved? - see above - also there's a lot of us on here who play through live so add us to your friends list.

Because I'm a cheap s.o.b, how much will it cost me?
    - Generally starter kits are around £30 - £40 and often come with a game, headset & 12 months live subs. It's £39.99 per year just for the subs if you pay direct or £5 p/m if you pay monthly.

Just thought, do I need to do anything or will it play DVDs straight away? - Unless your box is modded you will need the DVD playback kit (I think anyway as mine has always been modded so not had to consider this).

    Hope that helps.

    Thanks for the reply.

I bought secondhand, although I suspect that it had had very little if any use at all(most of the cables were still sealed). I got a headset, Project Gotham 2, Halo 2 and a couple of other games that say Online on the front, so I'll have to read through all of the bumpf.

PGR2 is the best live game, so get practicing and get racing! halo2 is sometimes good online, but depends on the attitude of the americans your be playing against

It's the menu screen you go to if you turn the Xbox on without a disc in it.

If you have the xbox on with no DVD in or just eject the tray, that is the dashboard, where you see if your friends are online, change settings etc.

X-Box media Centre - it allows you to play all sorts of music & video files including divx. You are best off reading X-Box Scene as that site tells you everything you would need to know about the X-Box :smashin: .
