Newbie with a lot of questions

Hi everyone,

Need some help.
I just bought a new Yamaha RX A3030 to replace an Yamaha rxv613. Also I was using with my old AVR a set of Kef Eggs with Cube 2 sub for surrounds and center and two floor standing Sony from a very old receiver.
I also ordered 2 Polk Rti a7 and a new center CSA6. I still intend to use my Kef's for surrounds and sub. Reason for not upgrading the Kef's is...money and space. I need something very small to hang on to the ceiling and one of the speaker is in the middle of the ceiling (wife does't want anything big)

Q1. Is the sound from Kef's going to match the Polk's?
Q2. Any other suggestion for surrounds, trying to build a 9.1 system and I was thinking to buy an additional Kef egg for rear surround. Also playing with the idea of buying Polk in ceiling to keep everything in the same brand.
Q3. In my new receiver going to have enough power to run the Polk's?
Q4. Can I use my old Yamaha RVR671 as a power amp for bi amping? Suggestions?
I listen to 50/50 music/movies

Thank you!

Most of your questions are more suited to your Speakers thread, but I would have thought using your old AVR for biamping is more trouble that it is worth, even if possible. I would run 7.1 first and try biamping the Polk's with your new AVR spare channels to see if you can appreciate a difference. Good luck

So, you have bought Polk Audio RTi-A7 and the matching Polk Center speakers, and you are wondering if using KEF 'eggs' as surrounds is going to work. Answer: Yes and No, but mostly Yes. There might be some tonal difference but in the Side/Rear speakers this is not as critical as with Front and Center. I don't imagine you will have any problem using your existing Kef 'eggs' in this system.

The Sub doesn't matter relative to tonal matching as long as you have a Sub that gets the job done for you, you are fine.

The Yamaha 3030 at UK£1999, is second from the top of the line in Yamaha amps, and should have no trouble driving the Polk speakers.

I don't see much advantage in using the older, smaller, lower quality Yamaha RX-V671 amp in this system. It is not all about rated power. The power between these two amps might be similar, but the 3030 is a massively higher quality amp. The RXV671 is about a £400 amp. Fine amp in it price class, but not even remotely close to the RX-A3030.

Hi Steve,

Thank you very much for coming back to me.
This is the first time I read or write on a forum, and I have to admit that I don't know much about the rules that apply to this forum.
Regarding my questions, I did read quite a lot in different threads around the forum but you gave me the most complete answer, so Thank you again.

I already purchased the Polks and I had the electrician running the cables trough my walls and installed the Kef's as surrounds. At this stage everything is connected to my AVR671. I managed to connect all 9.1 speakers. As the 671 is a 7.1 system it allows to connect 2 additional speakers as front presence. The 3030 is still somewhere in the mail between the USA and New Zealand.

I have to admit there is a lot of speakers for the 671 but I really enjoy the sound I get with existing setup and I am looking forward to what the 3030 can do.

Cheers,

Daniel
