newbie question

OK i'm new to this, BIG TIME.

I've seen some 5.1 surround sound speakers on offer and I want to get them for my living room to enhance watching films etc.

However, I don't know how surround sound speakers generally connect to the TV so can anyone help me? What sockets/plugs do I need to have available on my TV?

Hi Tim & Welcome.

You need an amp/receiver with 5.1 channels of amplification to drive 5.1 speaker setups. Your telly cannot output 5 channels and is unlikely to be able to power anything larger than p.c. speakers - telly's have very weedy amps.

Have search/read through the amp and speaker sections of this site for all the info you'll ever need, then come back and ask some more specific questions.
