Newbie question : formats and digital tuner?

    Formats ... is this the actual DVD disc you buy that is different eg DVD-r/-rw/+r/+rw/RAM? Or when you record, does the machine say 'which format would you like?" and you select which format? How does it work exactly?

    I've seen a few machines with a digital tuner built in - and according to the site it's a pretty nifty feature! What exactly is it?

    The format DVD-r/-rw/+r/+rw/RAM is a function of the disc, and the recorder supporting it or not.

    In the UK a digital tuner built in means a Freeview tuner. Currently there aren't many of these, and no models with HDD, but that is about to change. The advantage is that it makes it easier (and perhaps with better quality) to record from digital Freeview TV.
