Ok, one month to go before we move into the new house and the AV room plans are needing a bit of a kick up the bum. Unfortunately, because of the room setup (and the fact it won't exclusively be an AV room), I'm limited to a 2.5m wide screen. For 16:9 this gives me a 1.4m high screen and 285cm diagonal (112").
The plan is to build an entire false wall which will be 60cm deep, allowing for my bookshelf mains and matching centre to go in and behind the screen with tweeters at ear height. All speakers will be within the 2.5m wide screen though - probably not ideal for music but good for AV (I'm presuming).
The plans for an AT screen (filmex) are pretty clear - the only question mark is whether I need to add black borders to the frame itself or whether the entire frame can be the white spandex, since it will slot perfectly into a black background (except for a doorway on the left). Basically, there won't be anything reflecting light back either side/above/below, so I'm assuming I don't really need to add an additional border.
The bigger question is regarding projector. Since this my first PJ build, I don't want to spend lots (and can't justify it along with everything else that needs my readies, such as the house itself!)... so I'm quite tempted by an entry-level like the Benq HT1075. The thing I'm struggling with is the vertical lens shift and whether it'll be enough - or whether I'm going to end up having the PJ hanging 2 feet from the ceiling in the middle of the room (not ideal!)
Eye level (80cm from floor) will be level with the bottom 1/3 of the screen, meaning the bottom comes to 33cm above floor level and the top is 173cm above floor level. If I understand things correctly, without any vertical lens shift, this would mean the centre of the PJ lens is at 173cm as well (upside down). I think in the Benq's case, it allows for 15% (possibly 20%) lens shift, so an extra 15% x 140cm = 21cm, so 1.94m from the floor. In the 2.4m high room, that's 46cm from the ceiling, so a foot and a half. Not ideal, but I can probably just about live with it (I'm short).
The other question is the throw - for various reasons (having a curtain across the entire rear of the room), the further back I can push the projector is 4m from the front "real" wall, so 3.4m from the front of the false wall - and therefore the screen. Given my 2.5m wide screen, this means I need a PJ with a min throw of no more than 1.36x, which is fine for the Benq but it does seem to rule out a few other PJs.
Can any of you sense check what I'm suggesting/doing/calculating? I realise it will all be easier to work this stuff out when I'm actually in the house and measuring up properly, but I like to get my thinking in early!
Cheers in advance
