Received my new Marantz SR6200 at the weekend (£386 from Quality Electrical Direct) and I’ve got a quick query for anyone else out there who has one. (Likely to be the first of many given that the manual is useless, and I’m new to home cinema!)

From the first time I switched it on there has been a red speaker symbol on the RHS of the display which (surprise, surprise) isn’t mentioned anywhere in the manual. Anyone got any ideas? I’m using Mission M73s at the front; the centre/rears haven’t arrived yet. Could it be because the amp is 110 wpc and the speakers should only be driven up to 100 Watts? I assumed this wouldn’t be a major problem.

I’m also having to turn the volume to about –25dB for normal listening, isn’t this a bit high?

Hi,the red symbol you mention is there all the time on my 5200,not sure why other than when you mute the amp the mute symbol is near the speaker symbol, weird.

-25 is about right depending on how you have your db levels set up, higher the db level on your master volume the quicker these amps go louder,in other words start from -75 and its very gradual up to ,say -35 but then the climb gets steeper.

Try it at 00 db and youll se what i mean.

The red symbol does something on the 7200 but Marantz appear not to have bothered to have it removed it for those of us with lesser models where it doesn't do anything.

because it isn't a linear scale. every 3db increase is an increase of 100%, although your ears won't be able to tell that.
