Hi I'm a newbie to camcorders, I just bought a JVC GR-DVL355 digital video cam, can anyone tell me, if it's possible, for me to get the video I shoot onto my computer, ie as an mpeg file.

Thank you from a total novice and technophobe lol

Your PC needs to have a Firewire connection (also called an i-link). Then you use a 4 pin to 6 pin link cabe (from PC world for about £10) this will allow you toi make the actual connection.

Depending on what version of Windows you are running you will then need to use some software to to do the actual rendering and convertion of this file.

2 very good programs out there are Adobe Premier and Pinnacle Studio 8.

Studio 8 is miles easier to use but Premier is more powerful (and expensive :( )

I hope this helps...

PS - If you don't have a firewire card then you can get a D-Link one from places like www.scan.co.uk for about £20 - This pack also includes the cable and some very basic capture software ;) - The downside is that scan charge about £10 for delivery
