Hi everyone and a happy new year 2005 to all!

I just ordered a nice denon AVR 1905 which will arrive sometime this month, so I have some time to buy the right speakers. My budget is very tight, so I have the following options:

Rears: cheap and good eltax monitor III, for 70 quid, or something else for about the same price (10 quid more is fine).
    center: no idea
sub: would rather want to go without it.
front: either nice older mission m71i floorstanders, or mission m33, or Tannoy fusion m3.

What would you guys recommend? My max budget is 70 to 100 quid for the rears, no idea for the center (well equivalent priced I guess), and 200 absolute max (would rather go for 150 max) for the fronts which should be floorstanders.

Thanks for your help : )

    How about :

    Mission m73i front 119.99
    Mission M71i rears £59.95
    Mission m7c1 centre £49.99
    http://ws2.richersounds.com/showproduct.php?cda=showproduct&pid=MISS-M71I-BCH
    http://ws2.richersounds.com/showproduct.php?cda=showproduct&pid=MISS-M73I-BCH
    http://ws4.richersounds.com/showpro...M7CI-BLK&SID=c344568d929546fa2c3bea8804eaddd9

Total just over £230 or alternativly:
M3c2 centre Far superior at £109
    http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/page/moreinfo.cfm/Product_ID/1491

That should full fill your wants and leave you some money for some decent(ish) speaker cable and interconnects.

    :offtopic:

One point I would like to make is your not wanting a Sub. I feel (especially) with film not using a sub means you lose out on so much bass regardless of what speakers you own.:lesson: Save some more pennies for a decent sub like the Vita 100 or xls200 from www.bkelec.com or the Mordaunt short 309.

Thanks Dfour, seems fair enough. I might go for that package as it seems to be descent kit for not much money. The better center speaker it will be as I intend to buy these separately (otherwise my misses might not agree). About the sub, I understand what you mean and I believe you are right, but if I'm to buy it I'll do it last. I still want to listen to music a lot, so I didn't want to have too much bass, but you can turn that thing off anyway : )

    Thanks again

If you want to go the seprates route than a good centre speaker is esentail for movies and tv as it is that whcih is used the most. But people will tell you it is important to 'tonealy' match your system which means get stuff either from the same manufacturer and idealy from the same range. Subwoofers are excluded from this tone thing.

If you go with the mission how about the m3c1/c2 they would match for the centre and are pretty cheap, can't really get any cheap bi/di pole missions as the m3ds are about £130 dicounted, but what about the m30/i's they are directional and about £70-80. I think you will have a nice set using the missions.

cheapest i could find for the m33 (free delivery too) http://www.hifisuppliers.co.uk/website/loudspeakers/mission-m33.htm

    m3c1
    http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/page/moreinfo.cfm/product_id/1490
    or
    http://ws3.richersounds.com/showproduct.php?cda=showproduct&pid=MISS-M7CI-BLK

m3c2 bit more expensive, but it does look like there is some wood involved
there is one that is abit cheaper but they would charge for delivery
    http://www.hifisuppliers.co.uk/website/centre-speakers/mission-m3c2.htm

    m30
    http://www.qed-uk.com/q?vp=6&bg=216&bp=m306&bi=0&ird=1405
    and
    http://www.electricaldiscountuk.co....17&PHPSESSID=4e291b80b02b23e88e1db08e4d061f17

m30i , think it's a bit improved would you notice the difference as it's a rear?
    http://www.unbeatable.co.uk/CatalogueItem_24187.html
or £79.99 for any other colour from them.

Otherwise there are cheaper all in one packs like these:
This is a cheap pack http://www.unbeatable.co.uk/CatalogueItem_4318.html, but if you want something better i think you will have to spend quite abit more.
Purley on cosmetics these look nice and is an itegrated set http://www.avland.co.uk/pioneer/sv510/ and availible here for a few quid cheaper http://www.unbeatable.co.uk/CatalogueItem_24193.html.

If you live near one of the stores that have them, looks nice. Don't know if its any good though.

The centre speaker alone for the enery would blow his budget, more than i could afford too just glad there are plenty of hi fi shops in newcastle, with sales and ex demo!

you could try http://www.hyperfi.co.uk/ but if they have anything in stock thats another matter.
