The new Diamond 9 series is being launched by Wharfedale at the start of October. I've been intrested in the Evolution series for some time now but I don't want to buy them if a new Evolution series will follow the Diamond 9's.
Anybody know if Wharfedale is planning to update their Evolution series this year ?

Good question, I'd like to know.

I'm considering the Diamond 9.6 for a third zone in my house. Would be interested in knowing if they have an new Evolution update series in the works.

Word has it that Evolution update will not happen this year. More likely for middle of next year.

Diamond 9s are very poorly finished and built compared to the evo, as soon as they are run in properly i'll give an idea of how they sound.

    bobbypunk,

Would you be willing to elaborate on the " very poorly finished and built compared to the evo" comment?

Is it shoddy workmanship or construction, and cheap materials?

From what I have read, the Diamiond 9 series is only available in Vinyl laminate finishes. Is this true? Cheap laminates?

Is the finish and build quality worse than the previous Diamond 8 series?

    Thanks.

Build should be better than the previous all-plastic Diamond 8, but they don't have the real-wood veneer of the more expensive EVOs.

Diamond 9 has a vinyl wrap on its curves - but unlike D8 it has die-casting for all the bits - trim rings, port tubes, tweeter plates, speaker posts, which is quite unusual sub £200. Depends on how much the vinyl offends you really, because all the other bits are die-cast, not plastic now.

Thanks for the reply, Lost Cause.

I'm not offended by the vinyl laminate finish at all, as long as it's done well.

I'm considering the Diamond 9.6 and 9.2 for a third zone, a seperate room in the other side of our house; so it's not like those would be my primary system. Just want a hang out room for watching Football, Hockey and listening to some rowdy Rock n Roll, with my friends :D

In the Living Room, where my primary system is located, I can't have a bunch of friends over for a few drinks (or beers) ; I don't permit rowdy behavior or drinking in the Living Room.

I don't think the 9.2 is coming into the UK, so you're looking at either the 9.1 or 9.4 floorstander. :(

When I saw them, then I thought the build was OK for a budget vinyl speaker, it certainly didn't ring any alarm bells for me - albeit the veneer clad EVOs are a handsome speaker by anyone's standards.

Should be fun I would have thought !

    :D

They're inexpensive and if they sound as good or better than the Diamond 8 Series; they should serve just fine, for the purpose.

Afterall, these speakers are likely to take a beating....in that room  :rotfl:

They sound reasonable for their price but the finish and level of musical detail is alot lower than the same priced Acoustic energy EVO1 and Montitor Audio B2.

    I'm a real Portuguese :D and I heard the Pacific Evo 10 + 8 + Centre

Nice looks, nice finish, nice sound character, but they lack plenty of detail compared to MA Silver or AE Elite...
