Wow, they do look interesting. Will there will actually be an HD6 or HD7 though? Since the NW-A3000 is a 20GB player, doesn't it supercede the HDx series?

The press release also says: "Sony WALKMAN ... also features the first ever ‘Initial Search’ on a hard disc device, allowing the user to scroll from A-Z for ultimate ease of use." That's a rather strange statement, considering the HD5 has Initial Search as well.

Very interesting. Don't like it as much as the HD5 looks wise, but it has some interesting features. I would imagine that this will indeed supercede the HD series, but we'll see. Time will tell.

I don't like the look of it either...definitely no reason to sell my HD5 to get one anyway.

Quite chuffed its not that great looking actually cause it'll save me cash :D

    Have you read this bit:

The WALKMAN will be accompanied by a whole range of design-matching accessories; a stylish remote control for easier navigation, various carrying cases, a docking station for convenient connection with the PC, as well as a docking speaker system giving the option to connect to a PC (data sync) and play music through the speakers

    from : http://www.sony.co.uk/view/ShowArticle.action?section=en_GB_Products&article=1123689905907&site=odw_en_GB

Looks like they are starting to make more add ons for this lot.

Got to say, I think that looks ace.

The way the text is displayed looks *really* good.

Organic is a damn good word for it too....

A user replaceable battery is a must though.

If I was going to buy a portable music storage system / player, I'd wait for this.

At least until I knew the spec list.

Personally I prefer the design of the HD3 to the HD5, but that's not really what you asked ! The design of this looks (to me) lightyears ahead of anything else I've seen.

    So I was right huh?

Not only was the new walkman 20GB replacement for the NW-HD5 announced it September - but it is also shipping with a brand new software platform "Connect Player" to replace SonicStage as per the below picture.

I like it, it looks tiny and has clearly taken design cues from the NW-E400 / E-500 range with the OEL display.

Also like the equivalent of the Bose SoundDock.

On the question of "Initial Search", perhaps they have listened to our gripes and you will now be able to search by Artist Name?

EDIT - Don't think anyone has linked the images yet ....

The Connect player, Sonicstage replacer looks nice, 'cause it it itunes with new skin. That really makes transfer easier.

Hmmm - it is alright - the thing is, I can't help but think the Nano is much better looking... ;) Although as the biggest version would be 4 Gig it fits in a totally different catogory.

I really thought they would stick a colour screen on the next DAP... :)

Is there anything that is really new in that player? Desing is irrelevant for me, I don't need shuffle of any kind but the Connect-program interests me.

HD5 would be really nice, but I can't stop thinking about that new Walkman.

Is this really pushing the bar up ?

Ok it looks good (imho) never really agreed with the hd5 lovers who said it looked stunning it looked like a box to me !

Does it do gapless? Has it got a replaceable battery?

Wheres the colour screen ? The software seems better but they really are just catching up rather than moving things on ! Wheres the Ogg vorbis Flac Wma etc etc

Whats it sound like ? Is it as good as the Rio Karma ?

We now have some accessories (whoopee eh) Ipod Rio et al been doing them for ages.

Come on Sony thats the Walkman name your using there the name we all know an love , long before Ipod the walkman name was THE name , you had the real chance to move the bar up before Xmas an come out with the ultimate Ipod killer we all been waiting for . That design is very good but it could have incorporated most of what the DA Player folk want , an by most im talking those that want the colour screen, the photo ability etc etc and you could have impressed the audiophiles with Ogg Vorbis Flac etc etc this was a real chance in my opinion missed !!!

Unless keanos knows something we as yet dont know ???????????????????
Is this the appetiser before the main........

Can the HD5 users use the Connect software? That would be a smart move by sony.

So far nothing is actually different about it, all the features sound the same. Its kinda ugly too, I seriously prefer the HD5, if it was in that cool purple. It "looks" more solid than a HD5 though. How annoying are the buttons on the bottom.

hmmmmm....i will wait until more info is available. Im still liking the black Nano right now...sony still didnt get the idea of an easy to remember, non numbered name.

In Europe it's available for pre-order now to ship in October (violet) and November (black).

Click the link below and type A3000 in the search box at the top right.

    http://shop.sonystyle-europe.com/So...B&languageId=EN&s=external&ss=show&id=laptop*

It's the same launch price as the NW-HD5 at £199.99.

One worrying aspect is that there is no mention on the spec in SonyStyle of a replaceable battery - hopefully this will be cleared up soon.

I'm willing to bet we'll be able to use the new Connect software, yes. It's much cooler looking, but I honestly didn't like iTunes that much at all. I guess anything is better than SonicStage, though.

Agreed - the HD3 is far better looking IMO.

Why *wouldn't* it do gapless ? Given the sony players already do...

As for the colour screen - erm. What's that for ? If it's a choice of the "organic" (and I think that description is ACE) or an ipod colour screen, I'd have the sony every time.

If you want a colour screen, with photo ability, why not buy a pda ?

I don't see how it's in the slightest bit relevant to a music player.

Just click the option at the top right on the previous link that says, "You are on the UK site, change".

This allows you to select the Finnish site which says Violet available at beginning of November, Black mid November, €299.00

Okay, thanks. I still think that November is too late. I'll wait for few days if Sony releases new specs. If there is nothing dramatical new in this Walkman I am not gonna wait.
