According to the spec PDF, the new Panasonic Viera 37PV500 (37") has 1024 x 720 pixel screen, as opposed to the 1024 x 768 of the 42" and 1366 x 768 of the 50".

A little knowledge, etc. - but shouldn't that make the 37" work better with 720p HDTV, as there should be no scaling needed, in the vertical direction anyway (don't know what HD specs are for the horizontal)? (And it would make a much simpler scaling task for 1080i stuff, too - 1080/720= 1.5)

Not to sure about the answer you're looking for, i.e. will 720p look better on a 720 screen as opposed to 768 but just for your interest, if you want truly square pixels and a 16:9 ratio screen then a 720 vertical res needs 1280 pixels horizontally, hence the 1024x720 pixel array of the 37" PV500 will have slightly oblong pixels but they won't be as stretched as the 42" PV500 as that has 1024x768 (typically a 4:3 resolution).

for a 16:9 pixel array you need to go to 50" or larger....mmmmmm be interesting to see what the 37" HD is like, as its smaller at same distance it may look better than the 42" but with HD may not (remember most HD 42" are 1024x768 Pio/NEC/LG/Panny)

I suppose the issue is: with a 1024 x 720 array, will 1280 x 720 pixel images only be scaled horizontally? And if so, will that look better than scaling in 2 dimensions, as it were? I'm starting to think that given the non-16:9 ratio of pixels that this may not be an actual advantage...
