Good Afternoon, Folks,
I hope everybody is well, despite the darker mornings, the cooler weather, and the promise of one of the worst British Winters due this year! As some of you may be aware, I amno longer able to commit to weekly TV updates. As such, I will now produce a monthly update instead, and then add to it, as-and-when, new details become available. This purely because I was spending about 10 hours a month, doing the updates, and with my degree course at Uni, I don't have that much time to devote, I'm afraid. So, as of today, you will get monthly updates, and information will constantly get added to. Therefore, I would highly recommend that you subscribe to this thread, or else, return to it on a regular basis. That way, you shouldn't miss out on what's hot and what's not, on UK television!
Right, let's get started...!
Freeview News
At the end of October 2005, Sky's Travel Channel will cease, and be replaced with Sky 3 instead. Sky 3 is a free-to-air channel, and will show repeats of old Sky shows, like "24" (Season 3), "Nip/Tuck" (Seasons 1 and 2), and older US cult shows too. Some travel shows will also remain in the schedules.
Sky Mix will be rebranded back to what it was formally known as - which is "Sky 2"! Those of you with long memories, will remember that Sky 2 wasn't actually much cop, but this time around, only the name will change. The channel will remain more-or-less the same as it currently is.
In order to get the new channels mentioned, you may need to reset your set-top-box, or do an "Add Channels" check.
Satellite News
As per above, except that Sky 3 will be added as a seperate channel, and will NOT be replacing the Sky Travel Channel!
ITV4 will replace "Men And Motors", as of November 1st! Thankfully, there are some really good reasons to tune-in. The channel, is aimed at adult males, between 25-50 years of age, but don't expect soft porn, or adult material. ITV4 are aiming at intelligent viewers, who desire intelligent dramas, the best of ITV's documentaries, and provocative British shows. At the moment, shows due to air in November, include:
- Kojak (the all-new US remake, with Ving Rhames)
- Vengeance Unlimited (a superbly dark revenge drama, with Michael Madsen, with all the episodes being aired at a decent timeslot, unlike when Channel 4 originally aired it!)
- Traffic: The Mini-Series (a gritty two-part drama, loosely based on both the UK TV series, and the US movie, about the drug trafficking problems that have developed between the US/Mexican border, and the flow of drugs from Thailand, Pakistan and surrounding areas)
- Invasion Iowa (an all-new comedy/reality show spoof, from William Shatner. The show only lasted 4 episodes, but it was supposed to be very, very funny indeed!)
Starting this month, we also have some new Sci-Fi shows starting, including the UK premieres of:
- "Invasion" (starring Alexis Dziena, Evan Peters, Ariel Gade, Eddie Cibrian, Tyler Labine, William Fichtner, Kari Matchett and Lisa Sheridan)
- "Supernatural" (starrring Jared Padalecki)
Othe US imports, also starting in November, on various channels, include:
- "Prison Break"
- "Veronica Mars" (Season 1, on LivingTV)
- "Threshold" (with Carla Gugino and Brent Spiner)
- "House MD" (Season 2 - Hallmark has tentatively scheduled this, but details are still not yet officially confirmed!)
- "The OC" (Season 3 on E4)
- "Rescue Me" (Season 2 on Sky 1)
- "The Wire" (Season 3 on FX270, but may get pushed back to the New Year)
- "Sue Thomas: F-B-Eye" (Season 3 - The final season, as the show's now ended forever in the USA, on Hallmark!)
- "Boston Legal" - (the final few episodes of Season 1 should start on LivingTV!)
As you can see there will be plenty of stuff to keep you all occupied! And, last of all, if you haven't already heard, then HBO and the BBC have co-produced an excellent new mini-series, entitled "Rome"! It's supposedly controversial, with plenty of violence, gore, sex and nudity, and is likely to be the cause of many a complaint to Ofcom, when it starts to air on BBC2 in November! At the moment, the show has been Officially Confirmed as starting on Wednesday 2nd November 2005, at 9pm! The show will appear in the exact same format and duration, that were originally shown in the USA, except that the show will not be the Hi-Def version. More details can be found here!
And that concludes this update... for now! I'll be back soon, with more news!
