Afternoon Everybody,

Well, another month is nearly over, and the last week or so has given us plenty of things to cope with, from tornado's and extremely wet weather  , to the IRA declaring peace and the capture of the London bombers! It's all go in the world at the moment, and the same can be said for the TV industry. As TV schedulers start to announce some of their Autumn schedules, there are plenty of big-hitters for us to enrage and enlighten our eyeballs and brains! :) And, so, it's down to me, to highlight some of the more unusual or better programming that you can enjoy on TV over the next seven days. As always, details are correct at the time of posting this message. Enjoy! P.S. I need to ask a favour from someone, if I may. Please see details, at the end of this post. Thanks. :)

Saturday 30th July
House Weekend 2 - 7:00-11:00pm
Hallmark seem to be changing this show's schedule, although I can't confirm why this is. Anyway, it would now appear that Hallmark is showing several new episodes this week, starting from tonight. Tonight, you can see Episodes 9 through 12. Continues tomorrow night. (Hallmark Channel)

FILMS: Ginger Snaps Trilogy Night (18) - 10:00pm-3:40am
Tonight, you get the chance to see an entire movie trilogy in one go: "Ginger Snaps", "Ginger Snaps II - Unleashed" and "Ginger Snaps Back". Ignore the unusual title, as its meaning will become obvious once you've seen the first movie in the series. The story follows two teenagers. The eldest, Ginger, is obsessed with death. The youngest sister, is a rebellious teen, who finds life rather too much to deal with. When Ginger is attacked, and slowly realises that her body and mind are altering, it's down to her younger sibling to try to save her. But from what, or whom? The original is the best of the series, with some great effects and a dark, witty and savage script. Having said that, the other two titles aren't too bad either. Unusually, this is a low-budget Canadian series, that became a worldwide hit in horror circles, after word-of-mouth spread about it. Recommended! Contains graphic violence, gore, strong language and scenes of a sexual nature. (Sci-Fi)

The Shield - 11:05pm-12:10am
It's Season 4, Episode 2, and the Barn has a new police chief. Vic is up to his eyeballs as always, and things are running less than smoothly for Aceveda. There's been discussion about why Five airs this show after 11pm: tonight, you'll see why! Contains explicit adult sexual material! (Five)

FILM: Isle Of The Dead (15) - 12:45-2:00am
Rare screening of this classy Val Lewton horror chiller, starring Boris Karloff. It's old, (as it was made in 1945), but it's still a gem nonetheless. Some mild violence and gore. (BBC2)

Sunday 31st
House Weekend 2 - 7:00-11:00pm
The second night of Hallmark's second weekend of "House" episodes. Tonight, you can see Episodes 13 through 16, of which two new episodes (15 and 16) are being aired from 9pm. The series returns back to its usual one-episode-a-week, as from next Sunday 7th August, at 9pm, with episode 17. (Hallmark Channel)

Trevor's World Of Sport - 10:00-10:30pm
When this comedy series was originally aired, BBC1 pulled it after just two episodes, saying that it didn't fit into their Friday night comedy line-up. The show was then dumped into a late-night Monday slot, where it died. Thankfully, the BBC has decided to repeat the entire series on Sundays at 10pm. If you've not already caught this show, it's actually far better than everyone claimed. From the creator of "Drop The Dead Donkey", Andy Hamilton, comes a comedy set in the world of the sports agent. Neil Pearson stars as Trevor, a man who seems to be going nowhere fast. In the middle of a separation from his wife; with a son who loathes him, and surrounded by staff who are less than competent, Trevor is frustrated. As a sports agent, he meets the best and worst of sports celebrities. It is within this setup, that we follow Trevor trying to find out what he wants in his life… with spectacularly disasterous results. If you enjoyed "Drop The Dead Donkey", then you will probably enjoy this as well. You don't need to know much about sports or sports celebrities, but this is quite a clever satire. Hamilton himself can be seen as one of a trio of football fans who Trevor frequently visits for some (less than useful) advice on life. (Hamilton is the fellow, with a beard and moustache.) (BBC2)

Deadwood - SCHEDULE CHANGE
Those of you following Season 2 of the acclaimed and brutal western series, may be wondering what Sky 1 is playing at, with the changes. Well, alas, it seems that this show is now deemed as unsuitable for Sunday nights. I don't know the specifics, but it also may be to do with viewing figures being lower than Sky had hoped for. As such, the show is now premiering each week, at 10pm on Monday nights instead! Therefore Episode 3 can now be seen on Monday 1st August (tomorrow night) and each Monday thereafter. All other (repeat) showings are unchanged. (Sky 1)

Monday 1st August
Bravo Daytime Cult TV - 9:00am-Midday
Cult TV fans definitely have a good start to August, and Bravo brings back three of the most enjoyable adventure shows, which haven't been seen for many a year.
9:00-10:00am - MacGuyver (Richard Dean Anderson's spy/adventure show, starts a rerun, from today, with the Pilot Episode.)
10:00-11:00am - The Dukes Of Hazzard (It's Bo, and Luke and Daisy Duke, in that show! Here's the first episode from Season 1.)
11:00am-12:00pm - Manimal / Automan (The listings for this time-slot seem to vary, depending on where you look. So, I'll list both, and you can be certain one of these two shows will air. The former is the short-lived crime drama starring Simon MacCorkindale and Melody Anderson. He plays a detective who can magically transform into a Black Panther. It's corny as hell, and even quite dumb in places, but it was nothing short of unique. "Automan" was a short-lived sci-fi adventure show, about a man who was inexplicably linked to a futuristic car, and was able to fight crime. Again, corny, and dumb, but fun nonetheless.)
Each show, airs at the same time, each weekday, or one hour later on Bravo +1. (Bravo)

Lois And Clark: The New Adventures Of Superman - 11:00am-12:!5pm
Wahey! BBC2 starts its (temporary) revised daytime holiday schedules. Thus, over the next few weeks you can see some of the most fun cult TV shows, of the 20th century! Today, and every weekday at approximately the same time, we have the show that introduced the world to actress Teri Hatcher, who plays Lois Lane. It’s the full-length Pilot Episode of the show, and Clark Kent (Dean Cain) arrives in Metropolis, and ends up working as a reporter at the Daily Bugle newspaper. It's not long, before Lois falls for Clark, but is it Clark or his alter-ego of Superman, that she's really in love with. Showing uncut. (BBC2)

Thunderbirds - 12:15-1:05pm
BBC2's revised daytime schedules continue, with a repeat of all 32 episodes of the original Gerry Anderson puppet adventure show, showing in the new digitally-remastered versions, that are currently available on DVD. "Trapped In The Sky" introduces us to the Tracy family, and to the advanced technology that they have access too, to help save Earth from the many evil escapades of their arch enemy The Hood! If you haven't seen this show before, or want to reminisce, sit down and watch this show, as despite its age, it still holds up surprisingly well! Fun for all the family. Showing each weekday, at approximately the same time. (BBC2)

The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air - 8:00-9:00pm
Okay, so it was shown to death on BBC2, but here's a chance to see the show, totally uncut, and with some of the material the BBC decided was too risque for a teatime transmission. Here are the first two episodes, from Season 1, of the long-running comedy, that made Will Smith a household name. (Bravo)

Hollywood UK: British Cinema In The 60's - 9:00-9:50pm
New five-part series about the best in British cinema, at a time when Britain was a force to be reckoned with in the world of the movies! From Malcolm McDowell and Tony Hancock, to Michael Caine and Alan Bates, Britain had a wealth of talent, willing to make films that could do battle against anything Hollywood could put out. The show discusses the people behind and in front of the camera, and asks why we were as powerful as we were, and how did we get there. A selection of the best in 60's British cinema will air directly after the show, each Monday night. Tonight, sees "Whistle Down The Wind" accompanying this documentary series. (BBC4)

Cannibals - 9:00-11:00pm
All-new documentary about this dark and uncompromising aspect of humankind's upbringing. Do cannibals really exist? Is it just a myth that was widely abused in the movies, as a way of depicting colonial and ethnic tribes? Is cannibalism really possible, and if so would it ever be acceptable? These issues and many others, are discussed in this one-off show. Contains adult material, and scenes that some may find offensive. (The History Channel)

Deadwood - 10:00-11:10pm
New time-slot for the brutal and uncompromising Western series, starring Ian McShane and Timothy Olyphant. Contains violence and explicit language. (Sky 1)

The Wicker Man: A Cast And Crew Special - 2:30-3:10am
Documentary about the cult British horror film "The Wicker Man", including all new interviews and discussions with key personnel and cast members, including Britt Eckland, Christopher Lee, and Edward Woodward. (BBC4)

Tuesday 2nd
Top Cat - 12:35-1:00pm
He's back, as part of the new BBC2 holiday schedules. The one who's the most indispensable… he can now even keep his original name! See him, Benny, Cujo and all the others play havoc with Officer Dibble, each weekday at roughly the same time. Just to clear-up the myth: yes, this show was originally called "Top Cat", NOT "Boss Cat", and here's why. When the show originally aired, the BBC changed the name from "Top Cat" to "Boss Cat". This was because, in the late-60's through to the mid-1980's, there used to be a British product called "Top Cat" cat food. As BBC policy prohibited product placement at the time, the show was renamed "Boss Cat" and the music re-dubbed, to alter the lead character's name in the opening credits. However, BBC bosses weren't too clever, because the character always remained known as "TC" (and "Top Cat") in the show itself, leading to many bemused viewers wondering who TC was, and why he was known as "Boss Cat". (BBC2)

Gender Swap - 8:00-9:00pm
Two celebrities - Vicky Butler-Henderson and David Dickinson - perform an experiment, to undertake to swap genders, (through prosthetic make-up and specialist coaching), and try to fool friends and colleagues into thinking that they are new people they have simply never met before. Worth watching, especially when Butler-Henderson takes a car for a test spin around a race track, with her brother in tow! (Five)

CSI: Miami - 9:00-10:00pm
It's here! It's back! All-new Season 3 starts tonight on Five, and this season is supposed to be even better than ever! As usual, Horatio Caine, Alexx Woods, Tim Speedle, Eric Delko and Calleigh Duquense return to dissect more criminal acts, but are now joined by two new colleagues! (One, a permanent fixture from Season 2, and another all-new guy!) Tonight is the first of 24 episodes, and sees the team dealing with a violent ransom demand. (Five)

FILM: Angel Heart (18) - 10:00pm-12:10am
Dark thriller set in the world of Voodoun (the plural of Voodoo!), with a detective trying to uncover a missing singer, in 1950's New Orleans. Robert De Niro and Mickey Rourke star, in Alan Parker's uncompromisingly disturbing movie. The version ITV are showing is actually unique: unlike the current UK DVD print, a scene involving cock-fighting is seen in this TV version, in its original and uncut form. (The UK DVD has this scene edited, but the US has it uncut.) However, some graphically violent material seen in the UK DVD, but not the US DVD, is missing from the TV version also. Also, the TV version has different credits. The uncut version, should show a lift descending slowly, whilst the credits run over them in white lettering, with just the sound of the lift, and no music. The alternate, censored version, just has a black-screen or a frozen image, with the credits moving vertically upwards, accompanied by music. The TV version, should have the original (and director-approved) "lift sequence" version, which adds an interesting ambiguity to the ending of the movie. (I can't explain more, as I will spoil the end.) Essentially, what you are getting is a hybrid version. Thus, irrespective of whether you have the UK DVD, the US DVD, or the ITV print, you cannot see this film, totally uncut. Weird, huh?! A great film, but one not for the easily offended. Contains graphic violence, sexual material, strong language and scenes some viewers will find offensive. (ITV2)

Wednesday 3rd
Third Rock From The Sun - 7:00-7:30pm
Another chance to see all 136 episodes of this US comedy, starring John Lithgow, as the head of an alien family arriving on Earth. (ITV2)

How To Start Your Own Country - 10:00-10:30pm
New comedy-documentary show, that follows author and journalist, Danny Wallace, trying to start his own real, 100% bona-fide country. His first task is to find somewhere in the world, an island, he can legally purchase and then name. He is then required to create laws, invite immigrants to move their, and set-up a complete, real-life, world system, including a form of power (electricity, water, gas, wind, et al), a council and government system, housing, schools, businesses and a public transport system. Can he do it? Very funny, but also a brilliant insight into our own life and country's way of living. First of six episodes. (BBC2)

Nip/Tuck - 10:55pm-12:55am (or 11:05pm-1:10am)
Depending on whether or not "Butt Munch 6" overruns again (as it has done most Wednesday nights), two more episodes of "Nip/Tuck" will show, leading up to the final three episodes. Unfortunately, Channel 4 have decided to pull the show, and after the end of Season 2, they will not be buying the rights to subsequent seasons of this great drama. (This is also the reason they've been showing two episodes per week - so they can get the show over and done with quicker.) This means, only Sky 1 viewers will now get to see the show in the UK! I don't think the fact that the DVD of Season 2 came out before Channel 4 started airing it, helped matters, but it looks like fans of the show will now have to write, phone or e-mail Five to see if they would be willing to continue the show instead, from Season 3! I so wish Channel 4 would stop buying US shows, and then dumping them, just because they don't get enough viewers! It then buggers-up other channels chances of getting viewers, as has been ably demonstrated when C4 dumped "Angel", and "Alias", after butchering the shows for teatime transmissions! (Channel 4)

The Body Of J.F.K. - 11:15pm-12:15am
Documentary about US president John F Kennedy, and how his body was constantly ill and in need of medical care or treatment. Using CGI animation, the documentary explores why he was so ill, and shows us what his health was like, prior to his untimely assassination. (BBC3)

Wonderfalls - SCHEDULE CHANGE - Midnight-1:00am
Oh dear, oh dear! UK viewers are having a hard time, it seems. This quirky new US drama appears to be being dumped into a late-night, post-Midnight slot, again because of lower-than-expected ratings. At 8pm, Sky 1 would rather you watch "The 50 Greatest Celebrity Animals" and "When Sharks Attack!" instead! So, enjoy (!) the new time-slot for this show, for the last ten weeks or so! At least UK fans, are getting to see all 13 episodes, unlike viewers in the US, who only saw three episodes period! Oh, to be a TV scheduler! I could make such a difference! (Sky 1)

Thursday 4th
Touching Evil - 9:00-11:00pm
All-new US crime drama series, (about a detective returning to work, after a near-fatal shooting ended not only his career, but his life too). gets its UK premiere tonight, starting with the feature-length "Pilot Episode". I have no other details at this time, about the cast, director, but there are only 13 episodes. Sorry! :( (ITV3)

FILM: The Man With The Golden Arm (15) - 11:50pm-1:45am
Frank Sinatra stars as an aspiring musician who finds life hard-going, when he becomes addicted to heroin, and has to deal with his wheelchair-bound wife! Contains some violence and strong language. (BBC4)

Friday 5th
Committed - 7:30-8:00pm
New US comedy show, starring Josh Cook and Jennifer Finnigan, as Nate and Marni - two youngsters who find themselves in the complex world of their first love for one another. Good feedback from the US, and the fact it's going out prime-time on Five, suggests positive results. (Five)

And here endeth another 7 days of goggle-box viewing! :D Now, as I mentioned way, way back at the start of this thread, I would like to ask a special favour, if I may, of any of the AVForum members:- Unfortunately, due to my own incompetence, I missed the final 3 episodes of the excellent US comedy "Arrested Development", which aired on Thursday 28th July 2005, on BBC4, between 11:40pm and 12:50am approx. If anyone has these on VHS or DVD, and would be kind enough to let me borrow them, I'd be immensely appreciative. I only want to watch the episodes, so I can then join Season 2, when it starts on BBC4 and BBC2 in the Autumn.

I'd also like to ask, if anyone would be kind enough to record (onto VHS or DVD) the "Cannibal" documentary which airs on The History Channel on Monday 1st August 2005, between 9pm and 11pm (or on The History Channel +1, between 10pm and Midnight). I don't have access to Sky at the moment, :( and I don't have any friends who have Sky or Cable either. I need the documentary for some research I am doing at the moment, and so, if anyone would be kind enough to record this for me, it would be immensely appreciated.

I apologise to burden someone else with these two requests, but if anyone could help me out, I'd be very grateful! :) PM me, if you can help.

Cheers Folks, and I'll see you back here, next week, for more news on what's hot and what's not, on TV! Auf Wiedersehn! :rotfl:

Pooch

Hi,

Thanks to everyone who has kindly responded to my request to do recordings for me of the "Cannibals" documentary. It's much appreciated!

If anyone can help me out with the final 3 episodes of Season 1 of "Arrested Development", then that would be really awesome. :) Cheers!

Pooch

Hi Pooch,

Many thanks for your selected updates. As I was busy at the weekend I didn't see your selections. I was delighted that I had recorded "House" on Hallmark on Saturday as I had missed a couple of episodes on Five, but didn't realise there were more the next night, I could spit! I really enjoy that programme. It had taught me a lesson, never skip Pooch's weekly post!

I did, however, catch "Trevor's World of Sport" without realising what programme it was. I was a big fan of "Drop the Dead Donkey" and was interminably watching the constant repeats of that a few years ago, and I enjoyed this too. I had previously ignored it because of the name, disliking sports programmes.

I would have recorded "Cannibals" for you but see it's too late. I do hope someone turns up with "Arrested Development". It must be tricky for you juggling studies, television, and missing your previous Sky channels too. When you are finally qualified you must spoil yourself with the best AV set up money can buy to make up for all your deprivation. It will be worth it!!!

I have to say your comments on Big Brother appearing in all sorts of media must be true, although I have yet to see a mention in the "Daily Telegraph"! Whilst driving this morning I listened to Southern Counties Radio and was amazed to hear that Kanga had reappeared in BB and that Makosi was miffed because Kanga was topless in the pool! I shall have to read our forum again to see what's happened because they also mentioned on SCR that Orlaith had walked out, what have I been missing!?! Help me, I shall get sucked in again! Have a good week.

Cynthia

Forgot to mention. I tried to get the August edition of "What Satellite and Digital TV Monthly" these last few days and finally was told by my local newsagent, who had tried to source a copy, that they have now ceased publication. We are not surprised are we; in its current format it wasn't worth the price but I do mourn the old "What Satellite and TV Monthly".

Hi,

Went to W.H. Smith today and they had the August edition of "What Satellite........." so it is still in existence but looked to be the same old format as last month's, sadly. Haven't looked at it thoroughly though.

Hi Cynthia,

As always, a big Thank You and :smashin:

Glad to hear you're likeing Trevor's World Of Sport. And it's great to see Neil Pearson (as Trevor) back doing topical comedy again, ala "Drop The Dead Donkey". By the way, you can buy DTDD on DVD now! Season 1 was released at the end of July as a double-dvd set, for about £15. Highly recommended, and still very funny today - some ten years after it first went out on Channel 4!

I did get someone to record "Cannibals" for me, but thanks for your offer anyway. It is always nice to know I can count on people in the AVForums to help me out, when I need too. I don't think I'm going to be able to see the final three episodes of "Arrested Development" now, and Season 2 starts next week anyway on BBC4 and BBC2 (of which full details will be in my next update available on Saturday lunchtime!). A shame, but, sometimes these things happen.

As for Butt Munch, it's shocking. Kinga's back... and causing a lot of problems at Channel 4 (See my Channel 4 In Hot Water thread!), and Orlaith walked-out last Friday or Saturday I believe, due to Derek getting on her nerves. If you do watch this show, please, please don't get hooked. You now it's bad for your health! :rotfl:

Take care,

Pooch

Afternoon Everyone,

Thank You to everyone who responded to my request to record "Cannibals" last week! I have contacted everyone who PM'd me, and thanked them personally. It humbles me, when people are willing to help you out. :)

Well, I'm back again, with the latest on what to watch this week on TV. There's some interesting stuff for everyone, and hopefully, this will be the start of the new Autumn Schedules.

Saturday 6th August
FILM: Happiness (18) - 11:20pm-1:35am
Extremely controversial drama, from US Indie director Todd Solondz, about a group of dysfunctional residents living in New Jersey. The film deals with many taboo subjects, but despite the adult matter, there is plenty of black humour, social satire and pathos throughout the whole 135 minute duration. Highly Recommended, and not as grim as it could have been in the hands of an inferior director. This is adult drama, made for adults who want something to really chew over! Contains strong language, nudity, some violence, and adult material that may cause offense. Showing uncut and in Widescreen. (BBC2)

Sunday 7th
Two And A Half Men - 4:55-5:55pm
Complete Season 1 repeat, courtesy of Five, with double-bills every Sunday afternoon, of this acclaimed and very, very funny US comedy. Charlie Sheen stars as Charlie, a middle-aged bachelor who lives life in the fast lane, and only has room for one person in his life - himself. When his brother, Alan, splits up from his wife, Charlie finds he soon has some unwelcome tenants, including Jake, an 8-year-old boy and Alan's son. (Five)

FILM: Duel (PG) - 9:00-10:30pm / 12:05-1:35am
Steven Spielberg's action movie, is a stunner. A travelling salesman encounters a ten-tonne truck, whose sole purpose appears to be nothing other than to crush his opponent, no matter what! Considering this was originally made for TV, this has the hallmarks of everything that Spielberg does well - and it shows! Contains mild bad language, and continual threat of danger. Showing in Widescreen. (ITV3)

FILM: Aliens (18) - 10:00pm-12:50am
The original 1986 cinema version of this superb sequel from James Cameron, sees Ripley return to planet LV426, to locate and wipe-out (once-and-for-all) the alien creature that killed off her previous crew. However, the government have other plans for the alien, and when Ripley returns, with a bunch of battle-hardened marines in-tow, things don't go quite as swimmingly as she had hoped. Terrific, non-stop movie, that became one of cinemas most acclaimed science-fiction films ever! Stunning special effects, a great cast, and an intelligent plot, combined with biting humour and some amazingly quotable dialogue. Contains strong language throughout, and scenes of strong violence throughout. Lock and load, people! :D Showing uncut and in Widescreen. (Channel 4)

Monday 8th
Roobarb And Custard Too - 8:45-8:50am
They're back, and they're just the same! Yes, the awesomely nutty pink cat and lime-green dog, voiced by Richard Briers, return for an all-new series! The same creator, George Calvely, of the 1970's original, returns to animate the duo into some more weird and wacky adventures, in their backyard, and for once, the animation is practically identical - the squiggles of ink and paint we all know and love! Sit back, relax, and enjoy 5 minutes of utter insanity! Showing every weekday! Whatever you do, however old or young you are, you must watch this (or, at least record it)! Altogether now… Ne, ne, ne, ner. Ne, ne, ne ner. Duh, duh-duh, duh-der. Ne, ne, ne, ner. Ne, ne, ne ner. Duh, duh-duh, duh-der. My recommendation for the week! (Five)

SCHEDULE AMENDMENT - 10:25am-1:00pm
Depending on whether or not Cricket takes place, Channel 4 may be airing episodes of "Third Watch", "Frasier", and "ER" this morning. Please check press for updated information.

Law And Order - 2:30-3:30pm
All of Season 10 of the long-running US crime drama, start today and continue every weekday. As always, expect complex stories, brilliant plots, and superb acting from some of the best US actors and actresses. However, viewers should be warned that a) some episodes may not be suitable for younger viewers, and that b) episodes may well be edited to remove some of the stronger and more adult moments that appear in the show. (Five)

Fitz - 11:15pm-12:15am
When the British crime drama "Cracker" became a hit Stateside, a copycat show was made, under the name of "Fitz". It lasted only 16 episodes in total. Although not as bad as it was made out to be, the show simply didn't quite work. The lack of violence, and bad language, not to mention the cleanliness of the lead character, was removed, which took the soul away from what made the original so great. However, here's a chance to see what the US produced, in a complete Season rerun of all episodes made, and in the correct running order this time. (Episodes have previously been aired on ITV1, albeit sporadically.) The late US actor Robert Pastorelli stars in the title role. Tonight is episode one of the two-parter "True Romance". Guest Star Mariska Hargitay - from "Law And Order: Special Victims Unit" - plays a student who falls madly in love with Fitz, before going off-the-rails to grab his attention, by committing murders! (ITV3)

FILM: Journey To The Far Side Of The Sun (PG) - Midnight-1:40am
Stupid timeslot, for this Gerry Anderson live-action movie production from 1969. A pair of astronauts on a special mission, make startling discoveries on a newly-discovered planet. (ITV1)

Tuesday 9th
Profiler - 7:00-8:00pm
New US drama, about a criminal forensic psychologist who comes out of retirment to help an old friend out. This is the Pilot Episode of Season 1. Showing weekdays at 7pm, with a repeat airing the next weekday at 1-2pm. This show has also been bought by the BBC, and should start to air in the Autumn! (Sci-Fi)

Age Swap - 8:00-9:00pm
Follow-on from last weeks "Gender Swap", but following Melinda Messenger and Mike Reid, who utilise prosthetics to try and fool others into thinking they are far older than they are. Interesting show, although not always as great as it should be. (Five)

Without A Trace - 9:00-10:00pm
The start of an all-new set of adventures for the FBI Missing Persons Bureau. Season 3 starts off in an explosive way, with Jack Malone on his way out, and Viv on her way in, as head of the squad. Sam and Martin are in the middle of a difficult romantic liaison, but all is not what it seems for the team, when a young blind woman disappears. Despite what you may have been lead to believe, the real FBI does not have, and never has had, a Missing Persons Bureau! The FBI still gets calls today, from parents asking them to hunt for their missing family, friends and relatives, but are told to contact their local police station instead. The FBI only deals with national and/or international persons who are wanted for serious crimes, e.g. bombings, terrorism, et al. Fear not, terrestrial viewers: Season 3 will start in a few weeks on Channel 4. (E4)

FILM: Babylon 5 - The Legend Of The Rangers (PG) - 10:00-11:55pm
Rarely seen film of a "Babylon 5" spin-off movie, that was due to be the Pilot Episode of a new show, that was to tell the back-story of the Rangers, who encounter a deadly alien presence - the Shadows and the Vorlons! The show was never made, although J. Michael Straczynski still hopes to do some kind of "B5" continuation in the future. Contains some bad language and violence. (Sci-Fi)

FILM: Mask (15) - Midnight-1:55am (or 12:30-2:35am)
Amazing drama about real-life student Rocky Dennis, who suffered from a rare and harrowing bone disorder known as "Lionitis". Eric Stoltz takes the lead role, and Cher plays his mother. A brilliant, heart-wrenching and disturbing drama about the lengths that people go to to try to be normal. Contains some strong language, and some distressing scenes. Schedule depends on if live-football is shown earlier on in the evening or not. (ITV1)

Wednesday 10th
Lost - 8:30-9:30pm AND 10:00-10:55pm
It's finally here! After many, many months of anxious waiting by UK fans, this is the start of the show that took American viewers by storm, to become the must-watch drama show! Tonight, sees the feature-length Pilot Episode showing in two separate hour-long episodes. A plane-load of people crash land on a remote island, and are forced to survive in any way they can, before nature takes its course and kills them off through starvation. The show does take several episodes to get going, and you should ignore the dubious trailers that Channel 4 have been using to promote the show, as neither of them really gave viewers an indication of just how great this series gets! If you were one of those viewers who watched "Murder One" and "24" before they caught on, then watch this! Showing uncut and in Widescreen. N.B. Channel 4 and E4 have screwed-up the scheduling on this already! The second part of the Pilot Episode isn't scheduled to finish until 10:55pm, yet the subsequent episode is due to start on E4 at 10:50pm! Thanks Channel 4 - starting off as you mean to go on! (Channel 4)

Nip/Tuck - 11:25pm-1:25am
It’s the penultimate two episodes, before the Season 2 finale next week, and Channel 4 really are :censored:-off fans of this series, right to the end! Is nothing sacred to these idiots?! Once-again, we see lack of viewing figures as being the justification for the show being dropped, but whilst Sky 1 will continue to air this provocative and brilliant series, terrestrial fans may well be denied the chance, unless Five pick-up the rights. Yet another US drama brought by C4, only to be treated with utter contempt. (See also: "Babylon 5", "Third Watch", "NYPD Blue", "Party Of Five", "Angel", "Alias", "Oz", "Homicide: Life On The Street", "Philly", "My So-Called Life", "Hill Street Blues", "The Sopranos", "The West Wing", "Brimstone", "American Gothic", "Crusade", "Family Guy", "The Simpsons", "Futurama", "The OC", "Six Feet Under", "Stargate SG-1", "Star Trek: Enterprise", "One Tree Hill", "Line Of Fire", "Max Headroom", "Point Pleasant", and not-forgetting "Monkey"! ) But, hey, we can always watch Butt Munch 6 if we want, can't we?! (Channel 4)

Thursday 11th
Extras - 9:00-9:30pm
It's Episode 4, and after last weeks brilliant show, with Kate Winslet as a sex-obsessed nun, and Andy as a Nazi soldier, the series seems to be back on form! Tonight sees Les Dennis send himself up, albeit sometimes a little too harrowingly close to his real-life. Contains some strong language. (BBC2)

Q.I. - 10:30-11:00pm
Wahey! This excellent series returns to the BBC, but with absolutely no advertising or promotion whatsoever, and even the staff at the BBC weren't sure if this was a new series or not!  This innovative and riotous quiz show, is back on our screens, and Jo Brand, Alan Davies and Stephen Fry head-up the comedic cast, making their way through the alphabet, in their own inimitable styles! :rotfl: This series, we go through the letter "C"! Unfortunately, the show started last Thursday night, and alas, it was too late for me to notify everyone on the forum about it. My sincere apologies, for this. :( Although, this is episode two of the new series, you will be glad to know that this series will get its terrestrial premiere on BBC2 in the Autumn, once the run has been completed on BBC4. (BBC4)

Victoria Wood's Big Fat Documentary - 10:35-11:35pm
This is part two of the documentary, postponed from the 28th July. Brilliantly observed, very funny, yet filled with plenty of personal moments from Wood, about the trials and tribulations of being bigger than other people in society, and the way society and the media try to conform every woman into the ideal (male) image of how women should be. Very eye-opening! (BBC1)

Arrested Development - 11:00-11:25pm
Season 2 starts on BBC4, before getting a repeat, the following week, on BBC2. The Bluth family returns, and it's chaos as always. With George Bluth Sr at large, Michael Bluth could now face criminal charges over his father's company's criminal workings. And what will happen to George Michael Jnr and Maebe? Will the kissing cousins get to kiss at all? A gem of a US comedy, and highly recommended. Showing in Widescreen. (BBC4)

Friday 12th
Butt Munch 6 Final - 8:30pm onwards
Thank Frell, for that! Tonight sees the final few hours of one of the most inane shows to have ever have been inflicted onto the British TV population! Will Kinga the Minger still be in? Has Derek finally had a nervous breakdown? Will Craig and the other dopey one, ever kiss and make-up? Or will Makosi set the house alight, with her hair?! Who knows! More to the point, who cares! :rotfl: But if you're sad enough to know which of these miserable reprobates gets to undeservingly win £100,000, then you can watch live coverage on Channel 4. Personally, I'd rather rip out my own eyeballs, using teaspoons, and seal my bum with superglue, than watch this trash! (Channel 4)

FILM: Horror Night On Five (18) - 10:00pm-3:35am
Horror movie fans are in for a triple feature treat, with two great films, and one that's not too bad.
At 10:00pm, we start with the shorter, but more violent film adaption of the Stephen King novel "'Salem's Lot" (18). Originally, a 185 minute TV-Movie, the film version cuts down the running time to about 115 minutes, but adds in extra gore and violence that would have been unacceptable at the time for TV networks to air. What you get, therefore, is a darker, sharper and less subtle vampire drama, that still manages to make the nerves tingle in your spine. James Mason, David Soul, Bonnie Bedelia, and Lew Ayres star in this 1979 classic. Contains violence, gore and some strong language. Showing uncut, and in 4:3 format.
At 12:20am, is the 1985 classic horror-comedy, "Fright Night" (18)! One of the most ingenious horror comedies ever made, and one that still holds up well to this day, despite it's age. At turns, hilarious and scary, the film follows a teenager, Charlie Brewster, (William Ragsdale), who loves to watch horror movies. When he thinks he sees a neighbour move-in next door, and subsequently kill a girl and get rid of her body, he seeks help, but no one will believe him. Enter, Peter Vincent, (Roddy McDowell), an aged actor, reduced to playing a TV vampire. He goes along with Charlie, and his friends, thinking it's just an extended prank, but Vincent gets the fright of his life, when there's more to Charlie's story, than he first thought. If you love good, gory horror movies, with a vicious twist in humour, you should relish this film. A great music score, tops off a wonderful two-hours, which will thrill and chill you. Chris Sarandon plays the mysterious and handsome neighbour/murderer. Brilliant! :) Contains occasional strong language and some graphic and gory violence. Showing uncut and in Widescreen.
Finally, at 2:10am, "House II: The Second Story" (15) makes its appearance. William Katt and Arye Gross are forced to fight the horrors of a haunted-house. It's hammy, it's silly, and the monsters are clearly men in rubber suits, but it's harmless fun nonetheless. Contains some strong language, and some gore. Showing uncut and in Widescreen. (Five)

And so ends, another long list of what's hot on TV this week. I hope this post finds you all well, and that you'll come back again, for another update in 7 days time. Until then, keep those eyes peeled! :D

(Sci-Fi)

This isnt actually new US drama as it was first aired on the NBC Superchannel about 9 years ago - that being said it is a fantastic series and I am slowly getting all four series on DVD. It stars Ally Walker as a criminal profiler who can "see" into the minds of criminals (sort of like Frank Black in Millennium but Profiler came first and is in my opinion is much better - if only because it stars Ally Walker  ) It also stars Robert Davi (of James Bond bad guy fame) and Julian Mcmahon (Nip/Tuck & Charmed). The recuring back story is about the FBIs attept to capture a notorious serial Killer called "Jack of all trades" who has baffled all attempts to capture him by changing his modus operandi for each murder, hence the name Jack of all trades. Without giving the whole plot away it is basically Dr Sam Walters (Ally Walker) job to bring him to justice. There are multiple twists and reversals in each episode to keep you on your toes. Fantastic

This is a must watch series. I cant recommend it enough - watch it !!!

Yeah I remember Profiler being on CH4 or Five(?) on a Saturday and I think a PAY channel many years ago but at the time I chose to watch Millennium. Both had similar themes but the supernatural element of Chris Carters creation swung the vote.

Wouldn't have that problem now, just SKY+ 'em and I think I will give this screening a go:)

There was a Pretender cross over as well which must have been after Ally Walker left.

Nope Ally was still in it for that one I remember it well- as far as i can see she's in all four series but i think with a reduced presence in the latter series (ala O'neil in Stargate)

Must be two cross overs then, the main profiler in the one I saw was a brunette and didn't look like Ally.
Had a look on imdb and it says Ally was in the Pretender crossover during season 3 and Jamie Luner (taking the lead role) in the season 4 Pretender crossover.

I recall it didn't make a great deal of sense probably thanks to not watching Profiler or the first cross over:)

I saw the first crossover which was in a Pretender episode but I missed the second one as it was in the 4th series of Profiler which i havnt seen yet (just got to scrounge up some pennies to buy it on DVD :D )

On a slightly different note they are also finally releasing the Pretender on DVD - another great TV series finally sees the light of day in DVD

(Sorry for hijacking your TV Thread Pooch but I just love Profiler)

btw Wonderfalls for those interested is repeated on Fridays at 8pm which unfortunately clashes with Stargate Atlantas on Channel 5.

Stargate SG1 series eight is now being repeated on Sky One at 6:00pm weekdays/7pm on Sky One mix which shows the previous day's episode

I'm also very happy to see Profiler back. Great show. What do you mean though that the BCC has the rights? So will they be showing it as well? Would rather watch it on the beeb without ads and the Sci-Fi logo.

I missed Pooch's statement that the BBC had the terrestrial(?) rights to Profiler when I read his posting last week. If that is the case, I hope they treat it better than they do Monk, and previous imports such as X Files and Space: Above and Beyond. I think I still have very old recordings of the first two seasons from NBC when it was on cable; also from Living a bit more recently, but they said the ratings didn't warrant them getting more seasons (3 & 4?).

Buy it on dvd instead - then you can watch at your leisure without any cuts.

It will be interesting to see if the Beeb will show the episode missing from the DVD box set - it had a singer doing a cover version of "Ill be missing you" by Sting and I assume they couldnt get the rights to release it on the DVD

An average of £40 per set is too pricey for me at the moment. I'll keep my fingers crossed the the BBC don't mess it around, and also watch/record from both BBC and SciFi.

yes thats the only annoying thing - the buggers will not come down in price. I got fed up waiting - my second season boxset has just been dispatched

I think I'll take a chance and wait till the BBC start showing Profiler. I'd prefer to have it on weekly anyway and without ads or logos. And if the BBC don't show it Sci-Fi will repeat it many, many times anyway.

Not even sure why it's on Sci-Fi. IMHO Sam wasn't actually supposed to be psychic. She just had very good insights into a killers mind. That was one of the features of the show, Sam battling with her own understanding of the killers. I suppose it could look like she was psychic when she had flashes of the murders but I think that was just her imagining the scene based on the evidence.

My main memory of the show is the absolutely brilliant cliffhangers at the end of season 1 and 2. Enough time has passed since it was first on to make it almost seem like new.

Hi,

"Profiler" has definitely been bought by the BBC, and will start airing later this year, probably in September or October.

More than likely, it will air on BBC2, on Sunday nights, around 10pm, where "24" and other similar imports have been shown recently.

With regards to "Monk" on the BBC, it has been - alas, treated very badly on Saturday afternoons on BBC2. It's the kind of show, that would be more suited to Saturday teatimes on BBC1, when families can watch it together, as there's nothing overtly violent or potentially offensive, that would warrant any editing, for that kind of a time slot. It's a shame, they don't repeat Seasons 1 and 2 (including the last three or four episodes of Season 2 that still haven't been aired yet), where "Doctor Who" used to be on BBC1.

That is marvellous news. I will probably watch Profiler on SciFi (athletics permitting) and record (yet another set) from BBC2.

I understand both the BBC and SciFi have bought Medium - any news on when it will be shown?

I have to admit it but that does surprise me.
I never thought the BBC were so tight for money or lacking in the programming purchasing department that a 9 year old US import which has already been on UK telly would ever be considered for putting onto either of their analogue channels.
If ITV had bought it for ITV2, 3 or 4 then that would have made a lot more sense.

Oh dear,

Oh God! I think I've gone and made a HUGE blunder!

I've just gone and had a look at Epguides.com, and it seems I've gone and confused "Profiler" and "Medium"!

I think I should set the facts straight...

The BBC has the rights to "Medium" only, and this show will start in September or October on BBC2, likely to be on Sunday nights, around 10pm, just like they did with "24".

The show "Profiler" was bought by the BBC, and they did air some episodes of it a few years back, late on Sunday nights if my memory serves, but it didn't fair well. I don't know yet, if they still have the terrestrial rights, but I will find out and try to get back to you on this, ASAP. At the moment, however, only teh Sci-Fi Channel are to air the show.

Sorry folks, for this tremondoue boo-boo! :( I feel a right muppet. Looks like I should go and :suicide: !

Can you ever trust me, for new TY show information, ever again?!  Of course you can... as I've got some more news for you now!

The new 2005 remake of the hit show "Kojak" with Ving Rhames in the title role has been bought by ITV4 and will air in the UK, when it goes on air in November! Also, the Pilot Movie can be seen on Sky Movies. Details to follow, in my next weekly TV update. :)

Just out of interest (and at risk of being laughed off the forums) but does anyone know when next episode of Dealing with Dickinson is on ?

For some reason have found this strangely compelling
