    Good evening

I've just built myself a PC; which was to be used for general day-to-day stuff as well as a lot of video encoding.
I've never really been into gaming that much; apart from the occasional blast on the PS3 and I am really out of touch.
Although I don't think I'll ever be a hardcore gamer, I fancy seeing what my PC can do and quite interested in combat flights sims initially.

Although I know my GPU is not very high end, I decided to put something "OK" in the build in case I decided to try gaming. Can anyone recommend some good games to try out? I know that's a big question to ask but I really don't know where to start. As I say, flight sims would be great (I'm just downloading MS Flight to give that a whirl) but beyond that, what games will convince me I should be getting into gaming?

Spec's of my PC build, in case it's needed:

    i7 3770
    Noctua NH-D14 CPU Cooler
    Asus P8Z77 LX Board
    16GB Corsair Ballistix
    256GB Samsung SSD
    Win7 64Bit Ultimate
    Asus GTX650 DirectCU GPU
Cooler Master M2 Pro 720W PSU
    Corsair Obsidian 550D Case

Currently clocked the system to 4.4Ghz and it's 100% stable but may drop it back a bit as I don't think I need it running that really.

    Thanks, Stu

apart from flight sims what do you like? username suggests car lover so check out some demos and things once install steam. Raceroom racing experience is free for a taster try that and can look glorious.
Keep AA in settings low and ur setup should still run things pretty well.

Well spotted - I'm into my cars :)
Mate of mine suggested DIRT, so will take a look at that. I do have Gran Turismo on the PS3 and interested to see how graphics in similar games compare on the PC.
Will take a look at Raceroom - thanks ;)

On the PS3 I was quite into Call of Duty but don't really want games I can't pick up and walk away from easily. I'd rather have some "no brainer" games I can walk away from easily.

I'm quite old school so my favorite gaming memories are of Afterburner, Outrun, Sega Rally etc...

    Thanks for the tips.

On the scale of pc graphics GT5 comes in at 50%, much better looking stuff on PC. But thats not always the point, stuff like rFactor or GTR2 are tremendous games if have a wheel but getting on 6 yrs old and still look nice. Should be demo's of dirt games on steam.
Hope you have nice internet speeds.

    Raceroom.

    Smashing

Thanks for the info. I'm on Steam now and like a kid in a sweetshop :p
Internet not wonderful. About 3.5Mb down, 1Mb up (best I can get in my village) but its business class so contention very low and I have various upgrades with the ISP to get the best ping rates and network priority I can. PC is connected to router via Gigabit homeplugs. WIll have to see if it's good enough I suppose.

Going to try some of your recommendations late tonight and tomorrow. Will report back!

If you like flight sims then i can recommend War Thunder. It is free to play and is a WW2 flight combat sim, it is online, but has single player campaign and online.

I suppose, in a way, Battlefield 3 is a flight sim unto itself! :smashin: But you also get the option to go on foot, by car or tank ;)

There is also SimCity.. It has planes in it, you don't necessarily fly them though, but it's stupidly addictive!
