just purchased the LG 4k oled 920v, which is amazing.

I have been looking at av recievers and speakers for a very long time now, and the
Yamaha rx 679 and the denon avr 2200w
are the two which i can go for.

My question now is, do i really need a 4k upscaling av receiver? I hardly play much 4k content. An their is allot more to choose from which is cheaper.
However i do also beleive in future proofing, which is why i purchased that tv.

But am just split in terms of audio.

The one thing of major importance is HDCP2.2 capability. HDMI2.0 is also needed for 4K support.
Is your TV HDCP2.2 capable?

You should be fine for 4K ....if you are buying any HDMI cables get high speed ones, no need to spend a fortune, usually £5 a throw or so
