I will start by saying that I have no "inside" info at all.

But I think that AEG or IAG (whatever) will make some announcemnents in the New Year regarding the new AudioLine kit.

    Why do I think this:

    1. You don't buy TMA just to sell off their old kit and upgrades.
    2. Use of TMA name (i believe) runs out at the year end
    3. Now had some months to work out strategy
    4. Now had a few months to develop new products etc

    Does anyone agree/disagree?

    Does anyone know?

Am I just a sad deluded TMA owner who has had too much Xmas spirit??

I heard that there will be a whole new range launching soon (possibly cheaper). Don't think it will be a simple re-badge of old units. (although they are yet to decide on design). I hope they do keep the slim design and make use of the technology but who knows!

We've probably done the "Whats in a Name" thing to death already and having owned both, I'm happy to see the kit continue under either name.

I think it might have been a marketing mistake for IAG not to have pushed the TAG McLaren Audio badge for all it was worth. Lets face it, TAG McLaren has a reputation for performance without compromise. If IAG could have shown they could have delivered the same performance, regardless of where they made this stuff, they'd have stomped a lot of people's prejudices about kit built in China. Would that have been newsworthy enough to have the Home Cinema and HiFi press making a fuss? I suspect that it might. The switch of name from Tag Mclaren Audio to Audiolab would then have had a hell of a lot of weight behind it.

Letting the Tag McLaren Audio name wither benefitted no-one except their competitors.

Ah, we can all be marketing gurus when we aren't make privvy to the long-term plan, aren't pressured by bosses who don't understand marketing concepts and are not risking millions of our own money on these decisions.

And yes, you are "just a sad deluded TMA owner who has had too much Xmas spirit". Join the gang.

I think part of the deal, with strings, was they can only use Tag name until the end of march, at which time a few other strings run out as well :)

Audiolab will be on their own, with much less input from the old Tag guys here. Come April it will be sink or swim for Audiolab 2. I wish them the best, just wish they would tell us what they are going to do sooner than CES.

Cult status awaits the AV32R/DP......... ;)

I wonder if the hush hush AV64R (or whatever it was going to be called) will be the first Audiolab product that isn't re-badged TAG stock/builds?

By all accounts China has been a bit busy.... ;)

I planned to be there too but was forced to postpone other (less important of course) visits to mid February.

So Gordon, no Lambo round this year, hopefully next year :(

A little worse for drink were we????

I think you asked if we would still get DP upgrades, well I would say as long as people will pay for them, they have the boards, and naturally someone to do it you will still get them. Personally I'd say that if people want them I'd sell the existing unit and buy new..... Of course waiting until IAG announce the "new" range might be wise at this point but I can't honestly see anything being better sounding than the DP or containing "must have" features coming out of China just yet, we shall see......
I'd like to see the AV32R become a cult buy as and when it finally takes a bow, have you seen what price a Garrard 401 fetches these days....or a pair of LS3/5A's.....
As we have all said in other threads, there isn't really anything needed on the AV (apart from TMREQ on the bypass maybe).......

    Good choice opf words Bogi!
I too have found that I want for nothing, and am just settling back and enjoying the performance!
Incidentally, the biggest step up I've made since TMREQ is just repositioning the speakers.... Having completed some building work at home I can now mount my sides to the side (not at the rear) and surround backs at the back (not centre rear).... Massive improvement in envelopement.... Time to re-rediscover all those films/CDs that I rediscovered with TMREQ!!
Sometimes the best results are free!
