Twin stacked 10” giving driver area equivalent to 14”.
well, I think it looks quite interesting...
I'm imaging a pair, below my current wall-mounted speakers...
I think the height should be 540mm, since the two drivers alone are 500 mm high...
you make a very good point... I've emailed them to ask them to re-measure the height again...
Now couple more pictures available! WAF factor is still question mark. This could be put horizontal aswell, similar to XTZ 3x12 http://bilder.hifi-forum.de/medium/770908/skjermbilde_540519.jpg
The centre speaker in the pic you linked is laughable small. In fact the system would sound better without it
I spotted this on eBay this morning and in looking for reviews for directed here it’s a very good price imo: BK Platinum Double Gem Satin White Black Grille 300W RMS 2 x 10" Subwoofeer 5060403221148 | eBay
I really hope some reviews pop up for this soon. My velodyne sub stopped working a few weeks ago and I “need” a replacement yesterday
I just got a reply from BK on my questions of how high it is, and how good it is.
They have also introduced a P12 -300 SB with a bottom passive radiator to give Monolith like performance in a much smaller box:
Could be pretty awesome. I believe some of REL's offerings seem to use a similar setup.
looks nice, but I wish BK would give out some actual stats on their product webpages. I'd be interested to know how these two new subs compare, and whether they can really pressure the room and make my chest shake...
I'd like to replace my older single sub with a newer pair at some point and BK certainly provide some options...
I've gotta be honest here and say I think Bk have missed a trick unless there in something in production that hasn't been mentioned, but maybe a double monolith or a double xxls400 would also be well received, if not something with a 15/18" driver instead.
It seems as though BK don't want to compete with anything higher than the monolith, and whilst that's understandable being their flagship product, there is a lot more competition these days than there used to be as an alternative to the monolith
I heard a rumour that at one point they did try to make a 15" (?) Monolith type subwoofer with their 1000w amp plate they currently sell separately. Apparently it wasn't a big enough improvement over a Monolith for the price and so they shelved it.
BK have really cornered the UK market when it comes to subwoofers at £500 or below. Going higher they would start to face serious competition.
Indeed, it looks identical to my REL R-528. Great price for that kind of sub
Anyone purchased or considering purchasing the double gem?
I may look at going duals with these.
According to the former Dutch BK dealer it is sound wise on par with the 400xxls, he says on a Dutch forum.
Hmmm, I currently run an Arendal Sub 1 which I’m considering selling and goin duals.
Not being able to hear the double gems is worrying
I want to buy 2 subs at some point.. maybe next year.. Both the double gem and the new P12-300PR both look interesting. I've got time to wait for some reviews though...
Just bought one as a replacement / upgrade from REL Q100E who’s driver has died.
Only had it a few days and not really used it in anger much (need to have a bit of a reorganisation) but so far sounding good.
just to add, I just spoke with BK and they can make the P12 -300 SB with the 400w amp.
I am seriously considering going for one of these and then another later.
So i maybe selling my SVS PC2000 at some point.
400w? not 500w? Is this to make a P12-300SB-PR Plus?
They claim it's to match the monolith but smaller, I'd be interested to know how true that is...
Well the design seems almost identical to my REL R-528, so they're not too far off
I'll find out tomorrow - but the thinking is using a xxls400 and putting the passive driver in. The 500w amp will not fit. The 400w amp would not fit in the P12-300SB-PR. I'm not too sure why though.
oh, sorry I misunderstood you. is this making a version of the xxls400 with a front firing driver and a down firing passive radiator? if so, that sounds great.. but then why not make that in the first place...?
and where do these things sit with the mono? like everyone, I want the moon on a stick.. the kind of bass that makes my chest rattle and diminutive size
Will be very interested to know how you get on if you go ahead with this configuration. Should be fairly impressive I would imagine.
really interested to hear your views as you get more used to the sub..
They are making me a trial version of a 400xxls 400 PR and I should be trying it out hopefully by end of next week. They shut down for 2 weeks i think on 23rd July.
Really interested to hear your experience with this..
i'll keep you posted, but bear in mind I just use my denon to eq the sub and tend to set & forget!
The plan is to replace my SVS PC2000 with 2 of these eventually - 2 SVS's would not suit the room - or my wife!
Interesting indeed! I've got 2x XXLS400's, but wondering whether the modded XXLS400 with a passive radiator will dig a bit deeper and possibly louder at the low freqs? That's my only criticism of the 400, it's just a tad too soft sounding with the really low stuff.
Back to the topic, is there any more feedback on the new Double Gem? How does it compare to the XLS200 and the other bigger brothers from BK?
I would prefer a smaller box like the XLS200, but I can live with a taller one (the sub sits under a desk) if the performance justifies it.
