Trailers for Sackboy (Sumo Digital), Returnal (Housemarque) and Destruction All-Stars (Lucid Games) all had the Sony Studios logo. Demon's Souls (Bluepoint) is explicable by being a co-development with Japan Studio.

Is there something theyā€™re not telling us here? šŸ˜

They're just second party studio's. Sony don't own them but they work very closely with them which allows them to come under the PlayStation Studio's banner. Maybe?

It appears that way now.

I do reckon that Housemarque and Bluepoint will be acquired but these games seem to be published by Sony Studios rather than being first party.

Maybe Sony are waiting to see how well their games sell on PS5 before committing to purchase the studio's.

Yep, which is why they didn't buy Readyatdawn.

Bluepoint as a remake specialist could be a really useful team given Sony's back catalogue. They've built a great track record the last 2 generations.

Can you imagine getting them on Legend of Dragoon, Syphon Filter, The Getaway, Resistance, SOCOM, MAG, Colony Wars, Warhawk, Lair, Twisted Metal, Folklore? The potential list is enormous. Just get them pushing out a new remake every year or two.

Man, I've not heard this game mentioned in forever. Was it a PS3 launch title? A pokemon'esque type of game?

Sumo digital are British developer and like them alot be good if Sony got them

I see Sony are bidding for Leyou Technologies. Price circa $1.2 billion.

No killer IPs would come out of buying them but itā€™s quite a few studios for the money so it could work out well long term if SONY bought them

Thereā€™s quite a lot going on in that company though.

Thereā€™s a fair degree of Multiplayer experience in their studios, especially Digital Extremes, a real gap in Sony first party. It also fills the gap left by the sale of Sony Online Entertainment, thereā€™s a LOTR MMO in the works and Civ online.

They also own all the Telltale ip.

This is surely just an exclusivity and marketing deal

It's not just to do with gaming. They can use U5 for CGI in their movies. They can collab with Fortnite for movie nights / music concerts etc.

Good investment from Sony!

Itā€™s an investment. 5% stake maybe. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Actually it appears that it's a 1.5% shareholding, part of a recent investment round. Major shareholders remain Sweeney and Tencent.

This looks like a pure financial investment.

looks like it may be Tencent that will be the buyer.
