New streamers

I'm just getting interested in the idea of streaming to my living room tv and have just missed out on 3 EBay auctions of the Netgear EVA 8000 (outbid in the last seconds:mad:).
Reading several of the thread on here, it would seem that all the available streamers have very mixed reviews, ranging from great to rubbish on the same model.
So, I was wondering if anyone knows if there will be a time soon when manufacturers will be bringing out their next range of models to supercede the current crop.
If I decide to take the plunge and buy new, then I wouldn't want to buy now if theres a chance newer, hopefully better, models are on the horizon.

New media players always have issues, i would look at:
popcorn hour a110
playon HD
asus oplay

and after reviews are in possibly the WDTV "live"

Thanks to all for the replies, much to sift through there. The WDTV2 seems very hard to find any info on.
