Hi There,

I'm looking to replace my existing speaker setup, I am currently using my speakers and passive sub from my old all in 1 integrated JVC system (which I want to sell).

I'm looking for some advice on a decent speaker setup for as little money as possible, I would like to spend no more than £150 but am open to pursuasion to extend that budget a tad.

Can anyone suggest any decent On-line stores, or speakers please? I've seen these in Richer sounds and was wondering if anyone had any idea as to their quality?

Or is it worth going the extra £50 quid for something like this?

Cheers.

I genuinly think the extra cash will be money very well spent. My experience of small Sony speakers was not great, I can't see how the Eltax speakers can possibly have any sort of build quality at that price.

Older model speakers don't stop sounding great just because a newer model is launched. Look out some reviews and go to a place that 'clears' old stock. A bargain shall be yours.

I started off with the NSP220 and i think they are simmilar to these, the quality of sound from the satellies was pretty good, although the sub flaped (or farted as some would say) at higher volumes and that waas the packages only weakness http://www.hificonfidential.co.uk/detail.asp/sku=NSP110 . Richer has these which it looks like the same but with different design http://ws4.richersounds.com/showproduct.php?cda=showproduct&pid=YAMA-NSP240

The missions will be pretty nice too, but beware at this price a sub will be more like a mid woofer, you'll still feel some bass but it won't be real bass. Although when it comes to subs you have to spend quite a bit to get a decent one, but this will be a job for later.

Hi,

Just seen this thread in the classifieds section, do these seem like a good set? He says they're not Avant, does that mean they're an older model of the 908's etc? anyone have these or know what they're like?

Waiting him to post a response..

cheers.

Fair enough, nice succinct review there!!!

(any particular reason? Would they still not be better than my existing small JVC speakers from my all in one system and passive sub?)

Is that not an active system with its own amps included? It is not what you need and I suspect is being sold on Ebay because a close inspection would have you running for cover.

You have a decent enough amp. Don't short change it with tat.

Link to the Athena S1 web page. They may be ok but they are Canadian and I know precious little about them. The sub will be 110v, as is his receiver so that needs to be taken into consideration. And his estimated value is 'ambitious' but then it is Ebay.
