Check www.areadvd.de , see news 12/05. Will Sony be the first major manufacturer with a Pal progessive player to break the £200 barrier!!!

I think the important word there was "MAJOR" manufacturer ... Limit isn't counted as major manufacturer.

Looks like well have to be waiting 3 months extra for being over here. Release date in japan is 21st may. :(
For the cheapest model (DVP-NS730P) the 250 euro one.

    Some bits from sony.jp

That's not VGA out, its the D-Terminal which is just a more convenient way of connecting component video in Japan. The UK version won't have it, but it will have component via 3 RCA sockets and at least 1 scart socket.

Lets hope Sony can sort out their terrible, sloppy drives...

I still can't believe we are on the 3rd or 4th generation of DVD players, and Sony players still haven't got seamless layer changes.

The Tosh 220 has, and thats at a sub £100 price.

It looks high spec with respect to the DAC - it might be worth waiting for - what are Sony players like, picture quality wise?

    Cheers,

    Gary.

I love my Sony 700 player, fantastic picture. Only thing I hate about it is the drive is so shoddy, its a joke.
In fact the 700 is supposed to have "Precision Drive 2", its in fact worse than the Sony 335 I had, which was bad enough performance wise.
It just takes forever to search, change chapters, layer pauses are huge etc.
Eventually the drive on my old 335 broke down, and it refused to play anything after months of the player skipping disks, so not only does it perform badly, its also very unreliable.

    Sort it Sony!

If it's got the same DAC as the 905, you can be sure the picture quality will be top notch!
