Some images of the revised SKY+ have been posted to the Plusworld website.
Are there any 'rumours' on the ETA of this little beast?
Might be soon as I've read various bits and bobs indicating that SKY+ is in short supply which might indicate it's no longer in mass production and they are building up some stock of the new units.
Then again it could just be a distribution problem
Perhaps I should cancel my order and wait for the new box.
Is it just asthetics, or is it supposed to be a superior machine?
There is nothing to indicate it will have a superior spec after all this revision is the result of better chip integration on the main board and a consolidation of the various product lines to allow all Pace products to be manufactured on any production line.
To Pace and their customer SKY it will mean lower cost production per unit which means more/some profit if indeed Pace really do currently sell at or below cost.
The best example of this would be the dinky ps1 which was smaller and cheaper to produce than the original which extended the products lifetime and made it profitable for Sony to continue production.
I can't tell you what you should do but if you like the design/colour of the new SKY+ then a call to SKY to make enquires might be useful.
Don't worry: when you get your box it'll be a matter of weeks before it packs up, by which time the new one will be out and they'll swap your duff one for this new variety.
