Just got the new SKY BB router, larger white box over the smaller flimsy dark grey one.
My question is I'm not going to use it and SKY said just to keep it, can I use it for anything or can it be used by others if I pass it on?

Although you can discover the username/password you cannot change it in the Sky router, so your are stuck with keeping it as a spare or using it as a door stop.......

My router is an old sky one. How can I get them to send me a new one without forking out to them?

    Cheers,
    Guy

Pretty sure they will send a free one if you re-contract for another 12 months, think you still have to pay the postage which I think is about £2.50 though.

Yes, you can cripple it and use it as a Wireless Access Point or an Ethernet Switch or both.

I've also got one of the new sky hubs that was used for my fibre connection at my old address, moved back to the folks house to save for a mortgage and they already have sky broadband.

Can the new hub be used to replace the old grey one?

    Thanks

P.s sorry for hijacking your post:beer::)

Without extracting the User Name and Password from the existing router, and inputting those into your router, no. The existing router contains the credentials for logging into the Sky network.

Why would you want to do it?

Does the new hub not provide better signal?

In the lab yes, in the field its debatable.

Also as long as they both SKY supplied routers with sky firmware they should be just plug in and connect, no need to worry about user name and passwords.
