Thanks Jeff. Assuming the UK retail price is good, I think SIM 2 will have a winner here.

I'm not sure I even want to know about it. The temptation could prove to be costly!

    Hi Jeff,

I'm in Dublin and was thinking of attending the Sep'05 Hifi show in London..

Will this model be on demo at this show?

I was there 2 years ago and the Sim demo was very informative comparing the Domino against the HT500 - was that you?

    Hi Stu

That would have been Alan at that show.

I am pretty sure the new 3 Chipper will be at the show as Paul Miller ( who is reviewing it at present) is having a serious Home Cinema setup at the show.

Also, I will have one here ( in Horsham, less than an hour from Heathrow) on permanent dem by the end of August if you want to see the C3X under perfect conditions with Hi Def sources from Satellite, D-Theater, and Uvem HCPC.
And of course standard def via HDMI from the likes of a Pioneer 868 or a Denon A1.

£10995 is pretty good Jeff isnt it. considering the tec in this thing, this dosent cost much more than a marantz S4 which is amazing.
Well i just cant believe that price.

Just had a good look at the pictures of Sim2's new baby. What a fantastic looking bit of kit and gandley your right the price in comparison with the S4 or 777 is a steal.

Anyone know the steet price on a kidney and lung? I reckon I could do without them if it meant I could have a C3X in my cinema...

Stunning on both looks and the specs. I'm sure it will deliver.

Will the 300 series eventually be phased out I ask myself?

BTW - FAO: Alan & SIM2, what a beautiful creation, those curves, combined with the technology....wow! Once again proof that SIM2 are leading the pack. :smashin:

Ian, the 300 Series will continue as the single chip Grand Cinema range.

I have not heard of any plans to phase it out or change it.

 I popped into my local Sevenoaks in Reading and the chap had seen one yesterday and was totally blown away. He showed me a brochure for it and it looks amazing. They have ordered one and it will be in September. Can't wait to see as I have been waiting for a 3chip for a while.

If someone had the 300 E link and wanted to upgrade would the image processor box be the compatible with the new 3 Chipper?

The 300E Link DOIP would not be compatible with the new C3X Link 3 Chip projector.

Even if it was, you could not use or sell the 300E Link without the DOIP.

Are you talking about Alan or the 3 chipper? :D

I'm pretty blown away by the size, contrast spec and the price - I never expected that kind of increase in CR or the price to be that low and in such a small case.

    :rotfl:

I still can't believe the spec and that price, oh, and the curves...

I was starting to consider the upgrade options to update our cinema to HiDef. This announcement has left me with another option now to consider. As Homer would say, "Doh."

Mrs Doc is now suggesting hang on to let Sky HD get established for a few months- & see what's on offer, let the HD-DVD / BluRay battle commence in the UK (+buy a player), and meanwhile save up for the link version of the new 3-chipper.

    Just an update guys.

Went to Sim2 this afternoon and picked up my demo Sim2 C3X 3 chip projector.

You didn't think I was going to entrust this baby to a courier did you ? :D

I've posted some comments on what I saw over at RTFMs on Tuesday in the LCD/DLP forum for those who haven't been over there.

Best image I've seen from any projector so far. :)

I wonder if you will be changing the above after seeing the G90 ? :D

BTW, the filter you lent me works very well. I measured the light loss which is one and one third stops (one stop as you know halves the amount of light)
Picture still more than bright enough on 200w in a light controlled room.

So far, yes it does, though as Jeff has said, I'm seeing a Sony G90 on the 26th, and things may change then, so watch this space. :)

Other than absolute black level, the C3X is better than CRT in many respects and produced an image that I found more pleasing. It will be interesting to see what ardent CRT fans think of it (though you probably won't change the mind of the CRT zealots). Many CRT owners have gone digital now, including some very capable proffessionals like Guy Kuo (H79 + IMX) and William Phelps (Qualia), so they (digitals) must be doing something right. :)

    Hi Jeff,

It's amazingly bright, yet still gave a very solid image which was quite impressive. Single chip DLP seem to highlight artefacts if made too bright but that didn't seem to happen with the C3X. Adding the filter may save the retinas for those with high gain screens. :)

    Gary.
