New Sharp (UMC) TVs have RF remotes

I've recently bought a UMC-manufactured, Sharp-branded 49" LED TV on offer from Tesco. It's a good simple display for the price: I, like many on here don't need sound, smartness or many inputs.

However, I found that the remote is RF not IR, so cannot be controlled from universal remotes. Had I known this in advance, I might have chosen differently. In the end, it doesn't really matter as the only control we need is on/off — I have a crazy plan to get a Raspberry Pi to detect an IR signal and press the button or make the circuit on the remote.
