i spoke to robert whyte and another company today and its true sharp are releasing a version 6 and there is a chance it will have dvi input, they are still going to release the 5 series aswell apparentley they will be released in january 2005.there is nothing in there brochure about the 6 but there is about the 5,i think they have relised how important the dvi issue is both companys said they will have the 6 in before the end of january.so if it is all true people who rushed out to get one of the disscontinued g3 and g4 maybe we should have waited only time will tell

Hmm, what should I do? I was going to buy either the 26" or 32" G4 in January.

I think after SKY dropping the dvi/hdmi bomshell, they have HAD to sort out a release with dvi. sky may have actually done us a favour here.

The number in the Sharp product code is odd = bottom speakers, even = side speakers. So a GA6E is likely to be as the GA5E but with side speakers.

this is confusing now. after searching high and low for 32A4GE i a considering the 37" version/ but if the supposed 32" of 6 series does have DVI then i may hold off. any idea when it is due?

when i spoke to robert whyte today they said they were expecting them january,i also think the sky thing has a lot to do with it and when i spoke to one of the main guys in sharp about 3 week ago he said in one day he had 206 calls just about the ga4 and 3 being disscontinued and why the 5 series hasnt dvi,you could say i am unlucky buying my 32 ga3e sharp when this new model comes out but for me i am happy with it.

Personally, I think the new 6 series will either be a 5 series with DVI connection or a 4 series without detachable speakers but with DVI.

I'm guessing it's the first one. If it is a knee jerk reation to SKY, they must have worked bloody fast to have a decision made, design, manufacture and out into shops in 2 months. I think this decision for the 6 series was made before SKY announced HiDef and HDMI/DVI because they knew they couldn't supply the demand for 3/4 series.

i doubt they will add dvi and hdmi, but they are interconnectable in most circumstances. you may just need a switch box or something if you want two sources...

Thats my feeling at least given i havnt found one reasonable size tv with both on it,,,,

I guess if it is a "GA" model then it will be the same screen technology as the the GA3 and GA4 and is a packaging variation as is the GA5?

Is the GA6 likely to much more expensive than the current GA3/4 as it's new etc? I was after a 32" GA4 for about £1300, but can't get it until the end of January.

i think they may be just a tad more expensive the 5 series which going by sevral sites doing pre orders are going to be same price for "32 but the 37" ones are around £2k damn shame they dont have hdmi/dvi ports.

just checked robert whyte web site they are quoting £999 for a ga 6e
the same price as a ga5e ,surely this means that it wont have more connections than ga 5 meaning no dvi ,at the moment no further details showing on this lcd on this website , i reckon its going to be the same spec as ga5 but with ga4 style speakers any thoughts/news would be appreciated

    Arrgghhhh,

There's me trying to work out what to go for; Plasma or LCD yet I can't even work out what on earth is going on with Sharp Model numbers. Could someone please clear this up for me?

I have been looking at the LC37GD1E, apart from colour, external media box and 1(?) DVI port what is the difference between this and the other (bottom speaker) models as mentioned in this thread?

    Thanks, Andy.
