new set up advice required

Hi Guys,

I am very new to the hi-fi separates world and require some advice.

I am mainly in it for the music but believe that, for my requirements and uses, I can use an AV receiver and can get the best of both worlds (i.e. For films as well).

On this basis, I plan to buy the following;

- CA 540c AV Receiver (I played with my friend’s and I liked it)
- 5 X Sony speakers - (http://ws2.richersounds.com/showpro...d=SONY-SFCR500H)
- The new CA music server

Is the above likely to be okay?

Does anybody have any views on the music server or speakers???

Really appreciate anyone’s comments as I don’t know what I’m up to.

It actually looks like it will be a nice tidy setup. I would try to get a listen to the speakers and amp together to make sure they sound ok with music (we know the amp performs well here) and as long as you are happy with the result it should be fine.

the Cambridge 540c is a great pick..
You might consider somewhat beter speakers.. however if on a budget, than forget that remark...

I should listen to more than one speaker package before commiting yourself. The Tannoys at Richer sounds look a good bet.

I agree with the posts about the speakers. The amp is a good one, but listen to as many speakers as possible in your price range before making a decision.

Maybe I am biased, but I would also rather go for the Tannoys as mentioned than for the Sony speakers.

However if you can up your budget, it will be worth your while listening to the Mordaunt-Short Genies.
