I am considering the purchase of a Sanyo Z3 and having observed the forums for the last few days I have noticed talk of problems with warranties on imported models.

I have noticed today that Ivojo (who were recommended to me) have dropped their price and are now close to Pixmania (which are imported units) - could anybody tell me if they know that Ivojo units are definitely UK sourced product?

    thanks in anticipation

All the products we sell are UK sourced and carry the full UK warranty. We believe that it reflects badly on the dealer if products are sold without the full UK warranty, correct power lead, English manual etc. and we don't think a dealer can offer a good level of service without the backup of the manufacturer.

Buy from Ivojo - I didn't and now regret it.

    Though I don't regret buying a Z3, as it is awesome :)

still too expensive at £1000 from ivojo. i got mine from japan in a regular retail shop for £800 five months ago when they were £1250 in the uk. now they are under £700 in japan.

why are we getting ripped off? how much do retailers get them for and sell them for? anyone mind telling us so we know if its sanyo uk or uk retailers who rip us off?

theres at least one retailer reading this thread lets see what they have to say.

    thanks

Sales tax in Japan has just risen from 3% to 5%, UK VAT is 17.5%.

MAXIMUM distance from factory to retailer in Japan is around 500 miles, distance from Japan to UK is 6000 as the crow flies or 10,000 by sea.

We pixel check every single Z3 we sell and delivery to the customer is included in the price.

Just as an aside, according to www.dhl.co.uk a Z3 would cost £218.32 to air freight from the UK to Japan so I would imagine the same would be true the other way around. Obviously Sanyo are not paying anywhere near that for shipping but I would imagine it accounts for a couple of quid.

Depends on what you are looking for and where you want it shipped.

You should bear in mind that if you purchase from a country other than the one you are resident in then you will have exactly the same problem with warranties as anyone buying mainland Europe sourced products in the UK.

I see. I though the warranty that big companies like Sanyo give are international ones.

With Vat and delivery though that would push up to nearly £900 say if the £700 is exc delivery.

DHL prices? sounds like a desperate ploy of defence to me!!! sanyo will be paying peanuts for shipping z3's to the uk. i can send one box Z3 size and weight by freight on the high street for £30-£40 to Japan so for a big shipper you're talking £10-£20 at the most especially as its cheaper to ship from Japan. Tax differential is an extra 12.5%. Those are the only two valid points you made although nice to see you are trying to cloud the issue with poor points like pixels, delivery and dhl prices!!!! ridiculous especially considering the quality of customer service in Japan retail is 100 times better than what UK retailers can ever even dream of achieving.

    January 2005
    JAPAN: £800
    UK: £1250
    UK RIPOFF: £450
    UK RIPOFF PERCENTAGE: 36%

Figures modified to take into account tax and manufacturer import:
    JAPAN:£800 minus tax = 760
    UK: £1250 minus tax = 1030, minus import freight = 1000
    UK RIPOFF: £240
    UK RIPOFF PERCENTAGE: 20%

So we are only getting screwed in the region of 20% rather than 36%. Fact is we are still getting screwed whether at the hands of the retailer or the manufacturer and it seems the retailers certainly wont tell us honestly what they really pay for the Z3 although clearly its probably in the region of £500 to £600.

PS: At the shop I bought my Z3 from for £800 in January it is now £680 including tax. Whereas here we are still payign around £1000. ridiculous.

You've forgotten in your calculations the European Union import duty on consumer electronics of 14% of the landed price. Also, the UK's VAT of of 17.5% is calculated on the landed cost in Europe including that 14%, in other words, we're all paying VAT on the import duty as well as the cost of the actual projector.

Even 1K for the size & quality of pic the Z3 can produce is good value for money vs a plasma.

    IMHO...PJ :)

I have the Z3 and a panny plasma and I regret buying the plasma, when you compare it to the Z3 it's nowhere near as good in terms of both price and picture.

If someone goes round to a friends, and sees their plasma screen, they'll say, "Oh thats good "
If they come round and see a decent PJ running, TX100, Z3 or whatever, they'll say "WOW !!!!!"
    Simple as that....

It's not purely a size thing, the Z3 has a better picture than the panny plasma. There's no artifacts the image is cleaner and the resolution is higher.
    It just looks better.

Okay can you tell me the landed price and landed cost?

And can you confirm that you get your Z3 from Sanyo for £570 +VAT?
