NEW samsung (1024 x 768, 10000:1)

Keep reading, mate. It's all just jargon like any other specialist area. HD ready:- HDCP (copy protection) digital interface (might be DVI or HDMI, makes no difference) capable of 1080i, 720p, 576p and 480p at 50 and 60 Hz, and same inputs by YUV component video, and 'at least' 720 lines of vertical resolution. HD compatible accepts the signals, does not have the resolution

according to that site : 852(H) X 480(V) RESOLUTION

is this not the HD ver then, and its only £1250?

i thought we we talkin about the PS42S5H?

more stores have the SD version on there site now and some saying "in stock". They must be very close to shipping the SD version.

I have tried emailing them without success. I doubt whether they have them in stock, or indeed anyone else.

I emailed BE and they said they will be in stock in about third week of June.

If the price is correct and if the quality is very good, then it will give the Panny 500 more than a run for its money. In fact, if you bought one of these for £1550, instead of a 500, you could buy a 32" Tevion LCD (£750) as well for the bedroom as still have some change left. Another possible advantage of the Sammy over the 500 is that it is less wide, which could be important for some people. But of course, ultimately it hinges on the picture quality, which no one in the UK has seen yet.

Does the sammy have freeview?

Well... I was just about to order myself the Panny 42" SD from AV-Sales for £1280, but I'm seriously tempted by this one.... higher res on the panel is very welcome, as are the connectivity options.

Hopfully we can get some reviews of these soon...

DigiUK say they'll be available in 7 to 10 days, but they don't keep them in stock(?) so there'll be no chance to have a look at one.

MAW, assume nobody's approached you with them yet?

From the photos, it looks as though the speakers on the HD models might be detachable, but the SD model definitely looks like its speakers are attached.

I see that the SD model has no HDMI input and costs slightly more than a PWD7 with triple input board and pedestal stand, so not sure whether that's terribly appealing.

As for the HD models, the more expensive one (with black rather than silver speakers) seems to be about £450 more, but DigiUK lists its specs as absolutely identical, save that it has an extra HDMI port and an extra Scart.

The middle model is definitely calling to me - £1550 for an HD panel which has had (admittedly few) excellent reports in both Europe and the US would be amazing. I was pretty much set on the PWD7, but this could change my mind. If only it lives up to the hype (and ideally comes with a detachable speaker). I was going to buy my PWD7 in the next few days, but I guess I could maybe wait around for somebody to get a look at this new Sammy...

Where have you seen the 42S5HX? I can only find it in Scandinavia - could it be nothing more than a geographical market code?

I now have the info, no more than you guys, but from the suppliers. The £1550 is very keen, watch out for the profit clawback, expensive carriage, wall mounts, 5 year insurance and the other tricks us retailers like to pull. I might be able to get one in 2 weeks, reading between the lines, and there might be a demo model before then. For certain there will be one at the CEDIA trade show, 28th June. So I will see one there, if not before. I take it someone in w or sw london area would be interested in a demo at samsung or their distributors if it can be arranged?

that profit clawback as u call it is he same for any plasma make...but i get your point

I'm not certain of the model between H and HX, it's difficult to work out what's going on there. Welsh, as you know we have to make a living. I make most of my profit on installation, ie I put in my time and get paid for it, if you are a box shifter you have to do it differently, but then they buy more than I do, I'd find it hard to install them all if I sold more!

got a reply from Robertsons today stating that all their stock is allocated to existing customers, but if i placed an order it would be about 10 days before i got it
