    Hi,

I have spoken to a lot of people about the new s-class. Some people find the shape of the car really ugly others like it. I personally love the looks of the new S-Class. What do you think about it?

Reminds me of the Toyota Prius. Not sure about that centre consol, although covered up still seems like a lot of space there for a big car and seems to be slanting away. Pretty bland really.

I don't like it to be honest, I have done quite a few miles in my dads 05 S320cdi and think it is a great car to drive on a fairly long run, but for £55k+ I would rather have plenty of other things, E320cdi avantgarde estate for a start.
The new S looks too Maybach looking, the CLS is far nicer.

Beautiful interior, outside it looks like a silver coffin. Or worse, a volvo!

I'm not sold on the styling either... i just hope that the stories are true and their getting back to their roots with the build quality which has gone down over the years.

I totally disagree on the build quality, I think if anything it is getting better, I just think that BMW and Mercedes were so far ahead of everyone else back in the 60's, 70's, 80's and even 90's that they really stood out, however everyone else has really caught up.
To stay ahead of the game Merc, BMW, Audi, Lexus etc. have had to put their thoughts elsewhere, so they have added more and more toys and gadgets, which bring there own set of problems. But people want automatic cruise control, auto suspension, adaptive headlights, the best ABS etc. etc. but the more you add the more you have to go wrong.
Also with the new restrictions on using recyleable materials interiors are not really going to get much better until they change dramatically, take any of the last series of cars and compare them with the current ones, the plastics all feel cheaper now.

Well it is a fact that Mercedes build quality has gone down hill over the years (ask any motoring journo)... my mates (this is just one example of the loads i've seen) 98 C-Class (base model) was diabolical... basic things kept going wrong with it, things that really shouldn't.. i.e. the wiper motor, headlights etc things that i would on a 6 year old vehicle (at the time) with 80,000 on the clock (nothing for a 2.5 TD) expect to work perfectly.
I expect things like that to go wrong with something like a TVR as their R&D budget is about £10 and that includes the pizza, but merc spend loads on R&D.. they used to be fantastic cars and i hope now with them concentrating more they will be again.

Now you say that but my old man, an avid Merc man, had more problem with his 190E and the bigger one he had after than he has had with his C220cdi, E270cdi and his S320cdi.
