    From our on site guide.

    21:00 Extras (Comedy)
Comedy series from Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. Andy Millman has been an actor for five years but he's never done any acting, instead he is just a lowly film extra. His only friend is Maggie, a fellow supporting artist and a hopeless romantic. They are both working on a gritty drama directed by Ben Stiller and, fed up with having no lines, Andy decides he'll do whatever it takes to get some.
Starring: Ricky Gervais, Ashley Jenson, Ben Stiller, Steve Jackson, Boris Boskovic, Shaun Pye

    Hi Garrett,

Thank you for reminding me. I noticed it in Pooch's tv listings and meant making a note of it in my diary but forgot.

It should be a good series, glad I won't now miss it thanks to you.

So where were the jokes? They described is a comedy so I'm sure there should be some in there somewhere.

I thought it was very funny in parts but a bit hit and miss, will keep watching though as it took a good few episodes to appreciate the Office...

Although not fully concentrating on the program the bit I saw in the bar/night club was very funny.

It was a bit slow but there was plenty to laugh at. Similar cringey style of humour to the office.

Although not a big fan of Ben Stiller, I thought his parody of himself was very funny.

its always nice to see that people dont take themselves to seriously:

"would you laugh if i shot mummy in the face? Would you?" :rotfl:

"I cant remember were you Starsky or Hutch?" "is that supposed to be funny?" "i dont know you tell us, you were in it" :rotfl:

    Agree wih Gary D:confused:

The starsky and hutch line was class and the progrmame had it's moments.

Ricky is basically playing the same character as from The Office, i.e. very cringeworthy and embarrasing 'brit twit' (again!), which i'm not sure is ideal as I spent most of the programme turning away in embarrasment.

Catherine Tate Show which followed was MUCH better

    Hi,

I really enjoyed "Extras", but i think it works if you already know a lot of stuff about films, film history and film production. The discussion about Ozu, Kurosawa and Japanese cinema cracked me up, but probably would have been meaningless to many people. Can't wait to see the other episodes in the series! :D

Also, the "Catherine Tate Show" that followed, was absolutely chronic! Tired old characters, pathetic attempts at humour, and really unfunny material. Appalling! I'm quite shocked that it got a second series. :thumbsdow from me!

Lastly, did anyone watch the second series of "Absolute Power" with John Bird and Stephen Fry?! Now, that was funny! The pro-ID card campaign was just awesome! And the humour worked on so many levels! If you missed Series 1, you can now get it on BBC DVD. Series 1 was more political, and the humour was rarer, than Series 2 looks like it's going to be, but is still highly recommended, if you like this kind of comedy.

Its too early to tell if extras is really good yet, there were a few funny bits but I suspect it may be a bit of a grower. If I remember correctly The Office took a few episodes before it hit home :)

Nope - no weekly repeats at the moment, on any of the BBC channels. Sorry. :(

Hmmm. Not being a fan of 'The Office' and regarding Gervais as a one-trick pony, I wasn't going to watch this. However, I caught the last few minutes of it before 'Coast' started.
What I saw was The Office, but in a new location. Gervais was making the same 'faux pas' type of joke that were so hilarious (ahem...) in Office. Perhaps as I plough through my middle-age, I am growing out of juvenile crap like this.

(Ducks to avoid the slings and arrows of the discerning viewer  )

Steady on, Gary! Someone mentioned the new series of absolute power - now that's funny, intelligent and classy. Gervais should watch and learn.

    Extras deserves a second viewing (it's, like, multi-layered, y'know).
Huge expectations are its biggest problem.
Don't compare it to Office, compare it to the other 99% of ***** out there on UK TV.

Missed the first one but saw No 2 last night. Well done Ricky, looks like another cringing humour gem. Hats off to Ross Kemp and Vinnie Jones for sending themselves up.

    Hi,

I was really disappointed with the second episode, shown last night. I hate Ross Kemp anyway, as I think he's a complete turd of an actor, and Vinnie Jones isn't on my top list either.

For some reason, this episode just seemed very disoriented, in the sense that Gervais didn't seem to know what he was trying to poke fun at - himself as the "extra", his friend working on the Vinnie Jones film, or the special guests.

I loved episode one, and that was genuinely funny, but last night's was just empty. However, I hope this is just a glitch, because I want this show to succeed.

    Pooch

P.S. "Absolute Power" is also, another gem! Hilarious and brutal political satire at its best! Awesome! :)
